Feeling Quiet
Hearing Loreena McKennitt's "the mask and mirror"

Prejudice

We watched a movie last night called "Crash" ....very good, very moving, very important movie for thoughtful people. How complicated human relationships are, and powerfully influenced are these relationships by that which hides within each of us. Sometimes it hides deeply so that we aren't even aware that it is there colouring our image of other people. Sometimes it floats just beneath our skin, so that any little scratch reveals it .....and reveals us.

But sometimes it surrounds us and taints everything we do and everyone with whom we interact with its poison.

AT THE SAME TIME, HOWEVER....human relationships are complicated by the overwhelming bond of shared humanity. When and why and how does this bond overcome that which hides and rarely speaks its name aloud? And where is the path which leads us all to find a place where we are not afraid of each other's differences....the place where the future of humanity abides in harmony through tolerance, acceptance and care for one another. As we all stumble down this path, the hope I have is for a future bright with final understanding of humanity's fragile yet tempered bond.

I think the point of the producer WAS to make the audience very uncomfortable, so we could better identify with the characters.  Those two characters in particular leave a profound message with us....a message that keeps giving.

i liked crash but could have done without the whole groping scene with mat dillion and thandie newton, although i realize this was neccersary so he could redeem himself (SPOILER) by saving her life.  i think that movies need to show more implied sexual abuse rather than just showing it.  many good movies are just diffulcult to watch because this (ie Rob Roy, pulp fiction, dirty harry 4 (sudden impact).  just like in horror movies when you don't see all the blood and guts it's even scarrier. crash does get you thinking about how deep racism runs in society, i specially thought it was messed up that the persian guy from badboys was being so mean to the keymaker. he was the worst. crash was written and directed by the dude who wrote million dollar baby, another good but diffulcult to watch movie.
