Feeling Quiet
Hearing Meav "Ailein Duinn"

The Educated Giver

Could I sing as Meav with such pure piping that one's very heart is pierced through with the pain, longing, and hope of any and all who have ever loved....could I sing like that, I would never stop sharing with the world.

We make do with what we have...a "gift" each posseses to aid our fellows, our family, our country.  "They also serve who only stand and wait."

How can we encourage each person to fully explore her or his "gift?"  And how can we even persuade those who think they are "giftless" to look again, and find something which only they can share?

This is the real dilema of education.  That each person finds that "gift" and each person developes it and shares it with the rest of humanity.

Instead we track children, forcing them into sometimes impossible molds that supposedly turn out "perfect" products, each with equally mediocre educations.

How foolish, how wasteful, how harmfull and how expensive!  No wonder young people are easily turned off by learning.  And the ones who need learning the most seem to be those most turned off, tuned out, and discouraged by the typical public educational experience.

I feel sure that the future of public education will benefit from taking the present system, hanging it by its heels, and shaking until all the crap falls off.

Then what is left is pure learning done by inspired teaching with students whose goal is to find their gift, hone it well, and offer it to the world.

I am convinced that most know exactly what is wrong and what must be done.....so, who do we have to ________ (fill in the blank) to get the job done?
