Making The Move

Some nice people are regrouping and are trying to make the transition as smooth as possible. I hate surprises, rude awakenings and moving. I hope this is a move UP^ this time. I hope to be packed and everything in the van by this weekend so I can make the move soon and join my treasured friends. It looks like they have all the utilities turned on over there and the Welcome Mat is out. I'm sure there will be a lot of home-baked goodies and warm hugs for all. See ya there. *Clyde

End of the Line :-(
This reminds me of a train ride I took many years ago. I made a lot of acquaintences and had a lot of interesting conversations and saw a lot of beautiful scenes as we zipped along from town to town. As I disembarked the train at the station at the end of the line, all I had was memories. But, then, on the return trip, I saw many of the same faces, renewed friendships and met more new friends. All was not lost. I hope all your journeys are pleasant ones. Goodnight Chet. Goodnight David.

This Just In
I just got this pop-up ad at the top of the page. It was posted August 4 so I don't know why I'm just getting it. Anybody know what this is about? I haven't read it all yet, but it looks like I'll be making some changes soon.

AOL Community Photo Challenge-September WINNER!!
AOL Community Photo Challenge-September WINNER!! :
Well Shazam. I'm going to Disneyland. You guys are too nice. If I keep this up, y'all are gonna expect more. Somehow, pumpkins don't say 'September' to me, but they were ready. As long as I can bring a smile, I'll keep shooting. Now I have something to show to my Grandkids. Sometimes the best things in life aren't "things." Thanks.

Wind & Waves
There was a MeetUp.com gathering scheduled for Wednesday so I got there three hours early so I could catch the sunrise ( if there was one ). This was a day before the Nor'easter that raked the East Coast and the surf was beginning to get rough. I may post the other images later. Next time I'll remember to remove my shoes first. I've posted the photos in my Virginia Beach Journal. Click on the link to go to this week's entry.

Pumpkin Hunt Revisited
I thought the Javascript was cute,
but it doesn't work for everybody without the plugin,
so here are the static shots

Pumpkin Hunt
I thought I'd give y'all a sneak preview of Sunday's shoot before I edit them. I want to use one of these for the AOL Community Photo Challenge as soon as I decide on which one says "September." These were shot at Stoney's Produce on First Colonial Road. If you left-double-click on an image, it will pull it up for a better view.

Norfolk Botanical Gardens
I had my first Meetup with the local Photo Meetuppers [ PICTURE THIS Photography Club of Hampton Roads http://photo.meetup.com/577/ ] Sunday at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. The flowers weren't at their peak and I had difficulty focusing ( me, not the camera ) but there were still a lot of good photo opportunities. These are my glorified snapshots.

...and the winner is: Clyde from OldeTownePhotos. It was a close race but not a photo finish. Congratulations Clyde!
Thanks to all who entered and congratulations to the runners up.
The polls closed at 9 p.m. tonight (Sunday, 9/14) but, if you haven't had time to visit all the participants, you can still go to the Challenge entry and visit the links in the comment section...lots of worthwhile photos to view in those journals!

======================================================
What a great ending to a nice day! I had my first photo shoot with a bunch of nice folks from PICTURE THIS Photography Club of Hampton Roads (Chesapeake, VA) - Meetup.com
http://photo.meetup.com/577/ and came home to find my mailbox overflowing with congratulatories. I am honored to be selected to receive this prestigious award and I am deeply touched and inspired by your generous words of congratulations and encouragement. It was a last minute decision with my last shot of the summer. Of course, my fans would have eventually seen it anyway, but this makes it more better.
I'd like to thank our panel of distinguished judges and everybody who participated. Thanks to Marie, Vicki, Martha, Gina, Kat and Rob. And to Greg for all the tips and inspiration. Congrats to Donna, and to Nancy, whose Abby totally nailed 'Summer.' Y'all are up there with the best of the best. I guess I should thank AOL for providing a platform for us to share our photos and meet new friends everyday. This is truly a milestone for me and I hope the AOL Photo Community will continue for years to come with its values and goals. I follow a long line of truly talented and inspiring photographers. For those who didn't submit an image, thank you for visiting and for the comments. Now get your camera and go capture something for the next Challenge. Even if you have to sneak up on a flower.
Thank You, and enjoy the rest of the evening.
Clyde
Ps. BTW, After I posted the Sunrise Photo, I went through the rest of the images I shot that morning and found a better one. But it was too late. The rest are here >>> http://journals.aol.com/oldetownephotos/olde-towne-walkabout/entries/2008/09/12/sunrise-at-wrightsville-beach/1220
Some were chosen by WECT-TV for their public gallery http://www.wect.com/Global/category.asp?C=118219
and WITN

And as I was sitting there, waiting patiently for the sunrise and getting eaten by the sand fleas and no-see-ums, I thought to myself... They'd better like one of these. ( JK It was truly worth it. :-)

Sunrise at Wrightsville Beach
The threats of the hurricane cancelled the family reunion in Goldsboro, so I headed to Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach to retrieve Mom, who at least got to spend the week with her sisters. I hadn't planned on spending the night, but due to jet-lag, an unexpected short nap and a twist of the arm, I stayed and was able to get some sunrise pictures at the beach the next morning. I grabbed a couple of shots of the USS North Carolina on the way back, but didn't have time to take the tour this time. Two of the photos were selected for the weather report on a NC TV station when I went to their site looking for news on the helicopter that landed on Route 13 right in front of me. links at the bottom for further reading. Anyway, on with the show.
