Feeling Blissful
Hearing Zac Brown Band

Momma likes her "chicken fried...a pair of jeans that fit just right, and the radio up!"  (ZBB)

Been TOO LONG since I've updated this baby  . . .

I'm gonna help ya'll start your Monday off on the right foot and share a toe-tappin' tune that will put a spring in your step and carried you through the week. Weeee! Momma's "discovered" some new music!

The hubby and I heard "Chicken Fried" by
the Zac Brown Band on the radio and we looked at each other with "that look" that said, WHO IS THAT?!  We both instantly loved it.  My 10 year old niece, who I really don't know very well, was visiting this weekend and was in the car with us when it came on.  Of course, being me, I was snappin' my fingers, bouncin' my head, and wigglin' my butt.  We was shocked, in a good way, and said, "I'm seeing a different side of Aunt "L" !!"  LOL

So please give it a listen.
And heck, check out their other songs too.  I really really like this band  . . .  not just the one song.

And boy, when that fiddle comes in  . . . . HEAVEN.  Momma's gonna have to ordered their CDS soon!  And if my plans fall through next weekend, I'm gonna drive up to Toledo and see them LIVE.

Feeling Angry

Snoop Dog makes me want to vomit

Find out why.

My response:

Lori says:
Posted: April 17th, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Snoop said, “I just wanted to try to get a couple of artists to be a part of it, and they agreed to do it, so be on the lookout for it.”

I want to know who those artists are so I stop listening to their music. (And I have a feeling I know who would jump on board . . . if this proves to be true, I’m through with HIM.) This song is disgusting . . . and to dedicate it to Johnny Cash … insulting.

Seems country music has changed so much that a punk like Snoop Dog things he stands a chance.

Oh btw, I don’t think country fans will embrace him. (Maybe your Rascal Flatts, Kenny Cheseny, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift fans . . . ) I’d like to see them get angry about it, myself. If I hear my local radio station playing his music, I for one will call in and give them a piece of my mind.

I like all kinds of country music. But this … is BS.

Hearing Jypsi "I Do What I Want"

Jypsi releases debut album

Photobucket

FINALLY!  IT'S HERE!

Since hearing "I Don't Love You Like That" I've been counting down the days to the debut release of sibling country/bluegrass band Jypsi's album.  I just LOVE LOVE LOVE their sound, their look, everything!  I am praying they are huge. *crossing fingers*

Take directly from their myspace page:

"Jypsi is the embodiment of their name: the minstrel spirit, the wanderlust, the tightly woven family bonds, the individuality, and a striking sense of fashion and self-expression. Jypsi is a reverence for history while remaining ultra-contemporary. Jypsi is about feeling, about energy, about possibility … on the edge and over the top. Jypsi is now."

You can hear their debut album in it's entirety at CMT.com.

from the9513.com:  Your Take: Favorite Line From A Song

Your Take: Favorite Line From A Song

Brady Vercher | April 5th, 2008 Email Share

Sometimes a line in a song will make you stop and think a minute or you might not put two and two together until later, but you’ll pay attention to it every time it comes around when you hear that particular song, or it just might make you laugh out loud. Every line in “Pancho and Lefty” seems to carry weight and tell a mini story on it’s own. Let us know what your favorite line from a song is, what song it’s from, and why you think it’s great.

MY RESPONSE:

It’s really hard for me to choose, after all, one of the many reasons I love country music is that the lyrics are so DANG good! ;o) I’ll try to pick a few of my favs that weren’t already listed (’cause some were.) Here they are, in no particular order.

“I ain’t got a dime but what I got is mine. I ain’t rich but Lord I’m free.”
~ ‘Amarillo By Morning' by George Strait ~

“Little things I should have said and done I just never took the time … but you were always on my mind.”
~ 'Always On My Mind’ by Willie Nelson ~

“. . . you know that you`re gonna find me if you keep on drinkin` fast. `Cause honey I`m right there waitin` on you at the bottom of your glass.”
~ ’Here I Am’ by Patty Loveless ~

“Forgetting you is not that hard to do. I’ve done it a thousand times a day.”
~ ’A Thousand Times A Day’ by Patty Loveless (or George Jones) ~

“If I am truly crazy, don’t you know I like my life that way? And if I’m really going on out of my mind, won’t you hop on board and make your getaway?! . . .
~ ’Crazy’ by Pat Green ~

“I wanna honor your mother and I wanna learn from your paw. I wanna steal your attention like a bad outlaw.”
~ ’Memories Of Us’ by Keith Urban ~

“She tried to pretend he wasn’t drinkin’ again
But daddy left the proof on her cheek.”
~ ’Independence Day’ by Martina McBride ~

EVERY line of ‘Cowboy In Me’ by Tim McGraw.

” . . .hours become days, days become years. And you could burn down this town if they made matches from fear.”
~ ’Stealing Kisses’ by Faith Hill ~

“I’d tell ya that I’m happy if I wasn’t so damn sad.”
~ ’Down In Flames’ by Mindy Smith ~

List me some of yours!

Feeling Chillin'
Hearing George Strait "Brothers Of The Highway"

a George Strait "Troubadour" review I did for Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars The King of Country delivers, yet again! (track by track review), April 1, 2008
By  Lori "CntryMomma" (Northwest Ohio) - See all my reviews
It's April Fool's Day, folks, but the undisputed King of Country releases and delivers the best country music available! *proud smile* No joke! ; o ~

The title track "Troubador" probably best reflects where George is at in this stage of his life, which more than likely, is why it kicks off the album, right? *smirk* "I was a young troubadour when I rode in on a song and I'll be an old troubadour when I'm gone."

"Now It Was Me" is one of those song that reminds Strait fans why we love this man so much!! (As if we have ever forgotten!) I've listened to this song a few times already and every time I hear it, I envision a couple falling in love as they spin around one of those old dusty Texas dancehall floors I dream about visiting. *wink*

In "Brothers Of The Highway", Strait tips his hat to an unappreciated group of folks . . . our hard workin' truck drivers. The song is very catchy and will no doubt have ya swaying in your seat. A real toe-tapper.

Seems like George has caught "beach fever" in his "River Of Love"! *wink* I don't mind at all . . . for a little over 3 minutes folks like me livin' in Yankeedom can imagine we have our toes in the sand! Great song, but I'm not sure if I liked the background vocals. Who knows, they may grow on me. ;o)

Now. Patty Loveless is one of country music's greatest female singer's EVER! That's just my opinion. ;o) So when I first read she was doing a duet on this album, I COULDN'T WAIT! "House of Cash" is a tribute to the late and great Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash and their home on Hickory Hill Lake in TN that sadly burned down in April of 2007. (Wow .. . . if THOSE walls could have talked . . .:o/ ) Somber and slightly haunting.

Halfway through the CD is "I Saw God Today" which is Strait's current hit. This track will undoubtedly leave proud parents smiling, yours truly included. =)

"Give Me More Time" left a painful lump in my throat. So beautiful ... love the cry of the steel guitar on this one.

"When You're In Love" with it's beautiful melody is my second favorite track on the album. I just love everything about it and I feel good when I hear it! Coming in first is it's following track, "Make Her Fall In Love With Me Song". !!!Strait camp!!!, if you are reading this, this MUST MUST MUST be a single! Ya can't help but smile when you hear it. =))

George delivers a lil' bit of Texas Swing in "West Texas Town" with some help from Dean Dillion. I know Dean has written several songs for George over the years but cannot remember which ones off the top of my head. Dig George's "aawww" at the end. *melt*

"House With No Doors" is country ALL the way. A conversational song between Strait and a brokenhearted man.

When my eyes scanned over the title tracks, the final track, "If Heartaches Where Horses" caught my eye. I predicted to myself it would be a good song, and it is. *nod*

All in all, Strait fans will be left satisfied purchasing this album. I don't think it would be fair to compare it to any of his previous works, 'cause really ... It Just Comes Natural was George BRILLANT!!!!! But I purchased it with only knowing "I Saw God Today" and I am not disappointed.

Enjoy!!

Feeling Quiet

Momma's current wind down songs

Photobucket  Click here to listen to "I Wish I Could Back Up" by Alan Jackson . . .  the man has a GIFT of taking simple words and crafting beautiful works of art.  Just beautiful.  If George Strait is the King (and I believe he is!), then Alan is The Prince.

I wish I could back up and start all over
'cause now I'd know better the best way to love her
The words I would tell her, the time I would give her
I wish I could back up and start all over

Time takes you places you never knew you'd be goin',
it softens the edges of memories you're towin'
It changes the reasons you wanted to hold her
I wish I could back up and start all over

I wish I could back up and start all over
I'd make the first time feel like forever
Not to be younger, may be just to be smarter
I wish I could back up and start all over

Time takes you places you never knew you'd be goin',
it softens the edges of memories you're towin'
It changes the reasons you wanted to hold her
I wish I could back up and start all over

I wish I could back up and start all over,
days I would take back nights I'd wanna make longer
Moments I'd never just throw over my shoulder
I wish I could back up and start all over

But it's never too late to wanna do better
Love's never easy, changes just like the weather
some days it's raining some are sunny and blue
There's never perfect . . .  but there's faithful and true

Time takes you places you never knew you'd be goin',
it softens the edges of memories you're towin'
It changes the reasons you wanted to hold her
I wish I could back up and start all over
I wish I could back up and start all over

Photobucket  Click here to listen to "Right Where I Want You" by Alan Jackson

I’m usually strong, keep love all away
wall around my heart, so it won’t have to break
But you take me some place that I’ve never been
Now I don’t know if I’ll find my way back again

'cause you’ve got me right where I want you
     and there’s not a thing I can’t do
Completely consume all about you
You’ve got me right where I want you

I close my eyes you’re looking at me
You wake me at night walking 'round in my dreams
Windows are smell of roses in blue
and all I can think of is last night’s perfume

. . . and I’ve never thought that I would get caught
but here I am wrapped up in you . . .

Again, AOL poll feature is not working.  What did you think of these two songs?

Feeling Happy

Ashton Shepard does indeed:  "Sounds So Good"

I'd been practically counting down the days to Ashton Shepard's debut release "Sounds So Good" ever since I'd seen her video on GAC for "Takin' Off This Pain". Good Lord, so refreshing to hear music from a real country girl!

"During her first performance, {on the Grand Ole Opry} Little Jimmy Dickens remarked to onlookers in the wings, “that girl has never heard a pop song in her life,” while at the night’s second show, host Bill Anderson shared Buddy Cannon’s observations that “this girl’s so country she makes Loretta Lynn sound like she’s from Liverpool.”

If you like SERIOUS country music {and I'm not talkin' subject matter here},
you can find a full listening party of her debut album over at Amazon.com.

Highlights on the album for me were:  the kiss-off first track and her debut single "Takin' Off This Pain" and my new country girl anthem "Sounds So Good".  Heck, I'd love SSG based on the lyric "There ain't nothing like the sound of a cooler slushin' on the bed of your truck  . . . ain't nothing like the sound of real country music, come on turn it up!" alone!

I've said this before but I could SO HEAR Tammy Wynette or Loretta Lynn singing "I Ain't Dead Yet". "Old Memory" is so good it hurts.  Man!  Every hair on my body stands on end when I hear her sing that song.  I do pray it is a single . . .  but then again it's probably "too country" for radio these days.  @@  Such a shame.

You know, I've hear folks she sound like Gretchen Wilson.  She doesn't . . .  she's even more country than GW is.  I've heard folks say she's "twany".  Uhhhh, yeah?  So?  Have we been so desensitized to it in the last decade that we can't recognized true blue country music? @@  I'm not saying you HAVE to have twang to sing country (we can't choose were we are born), but geez . . .  johnny-come-lately's may use that as a reason to not listen.  Not me.  She's a breath of fresh air!

"a messiah to save country radio from all those Barbie Dolls who’d rather wiggle their glittering fuchsia toenails on MTV than sing Webb Pierce songs with the house band at some Alabama honky tonk"

Oh, BTW, don't listen to "How Big Are Angel Wings" without a crapload of Puffs close by.  :o(

Give 'er a listen and stop back and let me know what ya think.  (Since AOL poll feature currently isn't working.  Shocking!  @@)

4rd annual Academy of Country Music (ACM) Award:  predictions and comments (part 1)

It's that time of year again; the 43rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards were announced, this year by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood.

Something I found very interesting:
"For the first time in ACM history, fans will choose the entertainer of the year winner. Fan voting begins May 5, and more details will be announced at a later date, according to the ACM. "

I think I like that idea!!!  =))

Here are the nominees as well as my picks.

Who I predict will win in BLUE.
Who I WANT to win in RED.

Here's a complete list of this year's ACM nominees:

Entertainer of the Year
Kenny Chesney
Brad Paisley
Rascal Flatts
George Strait
Keith Urban

Notes:  Gosh, this is always a hard one for me to choose.  Well besides the fact that Rascal Flatts if up for it.  @@  I don't think they deserve it at all.  I want George to win, of course!  Or Keith. But I would be happy for Kenny if he did.  ;o)

***Let me note that Rascal Flatts may win based on the fact that they will HOUND your inbox telling you to vote for them.  @@  That, and their fan base is more likely to vote than say, George's fan base.  But we'll see! ***

Top Male Vocalist
Rodney Atkins
Kenny Chesney
Brad Paisley
George Strait
Keith Urban

Note:  Uhhh, hellooo?!?!  As if you had to ask! :o ~s  If George doesn't win, I'd like Keith to win.  I really have no idea who will win.

I bet Rodney is on cloud nine.  Last year he was won the ACM for Top New Male Artist and this year he is in with the big boys!  But . . .  where the hell is Josh Turner?  *growl*

Top Female Vocalist
Miranda Lambert
Martina McBride
LeAnn Rimes
Taylor Swift
Carrie Underwood

Notes:  Go RAN!! Wooo Hooo!  Carrie, *yawn*, over it.  I'd be tickled to see Taylor win.  I think it will be between Carrie and Taylor.

Top Vocal Group
Diamond Rio
The Eagles
Emerson Drive
Little Big Town
Rascal Flatts

Notes:  Little Big Town deserves this!  I've seen (heard) Rascal Flatts live.  They sound awful

Top Vocal Duo
Big & Rich
Brooks & Dunn
Halfway To Hazard
Montgomery Gentry
Sugarland  Sugarland

Top New Male Vocalist
Luke Bryan
Jack Ingram  Jack Ingram
Jake Owen

Notes:  Hmmm ... I'm gonna go with Jack Ingram.  He's has the best voice, better songs, and hell  . . . he's been at it longer than both Luke and Jake put together and then some!

Top New Female Vocalist
Sarah Buxton
Kellie Pickler
Taylor Swift  Taylor Swift

Notes:  Gosh, Taylor is gonna get this hands down! No brainer.  :o

Most folks don't even know who Sarah is yet.  No offense, but she was probably just rounding out the category.

Top New Duo or Vocal Group
Carolina Rain
Lady Antebellum
The Wreckers

Notes:  Lady Antebellum, I believe, is the best.  Yet, again, most folks don't know who they are yet . . . but then again, folks aren't voting for this one . . . the Academy is.
