I didn't know.

Picture from Hometown

I thought about this for a few days and finally decided to share with everyone.  I didn't want to because I didn't want everyone to know just how computer illiterate I am.  But now I am thinking maybe there a few more like me out there somewhere, so maybe I should share.

If you knew this already you don't have to say "I could have told you so".  If you didn't know let me know so I don't feel so dumb.

I have a ton of graphics saved.  They for the most part save just fine.  But when I go to look at some of them my folder has these things in their places:

Preview  Preview  Preview

I finally asked someone in an MSN group and they wanted to know how I was saving things.  Huh?  I mean you right click hit save and be done with it.  Right?  Well I guess not.  For the most part the graphics I saved that showed these things were saved as .art.  And they should not have been.  So, to find out what I have saved and to re-save it correctly, I have had to do a lot of work.  For the first one up there I get no preview so I have had to copy/paste into a email then resave and make sure to change the .art to .bmp.  The second one up there will open into a different window so I open it and resave.  The third one wants to know what program to use to open it.  Great.  But I found for almost all I select can pick "select a program from a list" and then pick "internet explorer" and it will open.

After re-saveing and then deleted the old file.....and now I have saved some in the wrong folders and am hunting them down like a crazy person.  Go ahead laugh.  But even if you have been saving yours right I bet your folders aren't in perfect shape and you still have to hunt for something from time to time, right?  Please say right.

A lot of times when I save it as BMP. it still shows a program pic and not what I saved. Now I will try what you are saying and maybe....just maybe it will work huh? (LOL at myself)  ~Wendy~

Lordy I am still finding the screwups! .art files seem to always be okay. i cannot tell you why just that they work out. I never save anything as .bmp cause i hate paint. I try to save things that I will be uploading into a TBuploaded file and then i put them into uploads when i am about to do it. that way i can burn it all to one cd and find it later if my ftp space is comprimised. and you have helped me and so have so many others.

I am a tad surprised since you seem so graphically aware, Kathy.  Just curious how you add stuff to entries then... I guess that .art thing works?  Anyway, another thing I was told early on was that it's best to save things as .jpgs rather than .bmps-- much less memory and the image is usually not compromised at all. Of course, animations should stay .gifs.

So you can make this change to photos in one of your graphics programs, just open it up, save as a .jpg and then delete the .bmp and use the .jpg.  Conzo told me about this.  hugs, Albert
