Christmas at Home

It seems that while we were away, getting baked alive in Buenos Aires, life still went on as normal at home.

I have been sent these picures of the gang enjoying themselves without me. (how dare they). We organised the gang to go to the last Sounds Easy dance in Northwich before we had finally decided to go, and so they carried on without us. We were sad to miss the last dance, but Argentina was calling. Thanks to Dave the invisible camera man for the photos

Enjoy the pics, and if I recieve any more I wil post them as well.

See also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIY76NOWB_4   for Daves video of the band.

Feeling Happy
Hearing Tango of course

Buenos Aires again for Christmas

Well here we are again, in the land of Tango. There is little to be done about the appartment, so we are free to socialise and dance. There was in fact some progress, I won't detail here you can find it at http://journals.aol.co.uk/tangogales/bob-buys-in-bsas/

Roger was not available though we did meet once, and he got us in contact with Bert and Brigitte. We had some great times with them and expect to meet up with them again in March or April.

They joined us most nights for the Milongas and we enjoyed a  great new years eve with them where we brought in the new year four times, English, German, South African, and of course Argentine. Followed by fireworks in the park, where everyone brings their own fireworks and tries to outdo their neighbours.

The heat was increadable. We would walk into a milonga shivering because the aircon made it seem so cold, but within two minutes we would be covered in sweat. When we walked down the street we would dodge under trees and stay in the shade. Every time we walked out of a building the reaction was the same as the heat hit us. Still I would gladly trade that for our British winter, I prefer the heat every time.

Eva invited us to her brother in laws for Christmas Eve, sixteen children from two brothers, wives, husbands, children, utter chaos, but great fun. There was a clown, gifts galore, and a tango singer, meaning we had to give a demo. They provided us with fine food and drinks and even included us in the gifts.

For the Tango singer see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKaPCBd1uh8

Luba our landlady cooked us a meal for my birthday, which we enjoyed with two friends of Luba's and the two french guys who were staying with us, Juan turned up late and finished off the food. Eva and Martin were invited as well but they were unable to attend. We finished the night off as usual with a milonga. This time at Salon Dandi,.Bert and two of his South African friends turned up there as well, so we had quite a party. to see Viv dancing with Bert go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5ZXdiWoSQM

Pericles invited us to a couple of parties, which all helped to enliven Christmas week. I am still trying to get my head around the Jewish Christmas party (as they say do not try to understand just enjoy). The second party was finished off with a walking tour to see the transvestites. Unfortunately we had to decline as we had arranged to meet Juan in The Sunderland Club.

After pressure from Viv we took a trip to Uraguay, on The Buquebus boat. A place called Colonia.it took about three hours to see it all, unfortunately due to the ferries we were stuck there twelve hours in forty degrees, with little shade. After being ripped off over lunch we were not inclined to spend much time in bars either. Still we fared better than the two french boys who helped us book the trip, they had come the week before and retuned as french fries.

We decided to try public transport to visit Eva. It would have been quite sucsessful if we had been able to contact her, still we had agood train journey and a walking tour of Pilar.Cooled off in the fountains and had a nice icecream. The return fair for us both was six pesos, just about a pound, and the trains hour and a quarter journey was filled with entertaining people trying to sell everything from icecreams to glasses.

Our final milonga was not the usual emotional affair, we have had too many last nights now. It was Jaun's birthday so we had something to celebrate. We stopped off at Bert and Brigetas on the last day for a final drink and left some things for when we return, hopefully they will still be there when we return.

As usual everyone treated us as long lost relatives, I will never be able to fully understand the kindness that is shown to us, I always leave wondering what I have done to deserve such treatment, all I can do is express my thanks here to everyone I have met in Argentina, and hope on day I can repay at least some of their love.

Hearing Tango

Buenos Aires Second time 07

We returned to BsAs for a second time in the hope of buying an appartment. Not many dancing pictures, but a lot of stress. For the full story of our search go to http://journals.aol.co.uk/tangogales/bob-buys-in-bsas/

It was extremely cold and we were ill prepared, but were still amussed by the antics of the locals when there was a bit of sleet. We managed to get to the zoo on one of our few free days, but still managed to dance almost every night.

The strangest thing was we were alone most of the time, even Luba had left us alone in the flat while she was in the USA. Roger and Mirta were back in Cordoba, we cannot expect them to come running every time we arrive in BsAs. Eva was uncontactable, this happens from time to time, I never know why.
Juan was too busy to come to any of the milongas, and so our only companion for most of the fortnight was Pericles our property agent. He does not dance so we danced alone and our choices were governed mainly by what we had liked before.
We did however meet up with Andreas and Geneveva, acouple who had done classes around Wilmslow and caught up on the progress of the twins.

Buenos Aires "007

Yet another memorable trip to Buenos Aires. We seem to accumulate friends at a staggering rate every time we go.

Viv had a fabulous birthday bash, I think there were tweny two people there. To see her dancing with Juan go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPfSkvMbYeU

We spent half our time looking at flats and fighting the Argentine bureaucracy to no avail. Still we danced till dawn every night, partied like its 2007 and ate the best steak in the world at the lowest prices.

Apologies to Eva, I got no photos of the youngsters, I guess I was just too happy.

I cannot dance Tango now without Juan's words in my head,"Head up feet together"

Heres to the next trip, hasta pronto.

Gobowen Tango

I think madness has finally taken over, we went for a night out in Cardiff!! That is 8 hours driving in total. The Nowegian Church was a great venue and a good time was had by all, got stuck in some strange positions in the back of a very small car with these ladys and lost most of the next day sleeping.

2006 Xmas lunacy

Christmas lunacy started this year with a tinsle and tukey trip to Bournemouth. While there we met up with my daughters future inlaws ( I worry they may be as mad as me). The crowd we went with from Ewloe were great fun, they may be getting on a bit but they are more alive than anyone I know from my age group.

We then had a dance at Theatre Clwyd with a group from Ruthin ( I like to spread myself around) and then the usual Northwich Sounds Easy dance in Northwich. Of course we also have our usual dances in between times, including our new Tango venue at Gobowen, which I think may justify its own entry.

Have entered some pictures of Ewloe this time, for completeness

Hearing Tango

Bylaugh Hall

On a recent holiday to Norfolk I got bored and decided to look for some Tango. I came across Bylaugh Hall , they have a class and practica every Thursday. They also have dance weekends and various other events.

The class was very mixed ability, but the type of teaching was very inclusive. The people there were the most friendly bunch you could wish to meet. We also had a meal before the class and the food was also excellent, (Viv is very fond of a bit of salmon).

Sorry for the shortage of pictures, but I forget about my camera when I am dancing. Many thanks to Stephen and Muffy for an excellent class and allowing the van to stay over in the carpark.

You can find more information at this addrress.       http://www.englandtango.com/

or  at         http://www.bylaugh.com/index.php?page=DANCE&cat=DANCE

While there visit the pictures of the restoration. They have done some amazing things there. When you see the before pictures you will be amazed that anything could ever become of that place again. I hope the knockers out there run out of steam soon, and I hope to visit again  to see what more fantastic work has been done.

Hearing More and more Tango

Buenos Aires 2006

I said I would be back and here are the pictures. Met  a fabulous pair of teachers this time, just like everyone there they treated us like old friends. The milongas were as good as ever, very crowded, but I thought this time there were many more tourists just there to watch. This meant that at some places the dancers were just there to show off and not enjoy the dance, but it also meant there was more space for those of us who are not used to the very crowded milongas.

Eva invited us to her house again for Easter. They had an enormous barbecue beautiful food and more meat than you have ever seen (still could not bring myself to eat intestines). Her brothers entertained us with singing and guitar playing and I enjoyed it so much I asked if I could become an honorary member of the family.

We won a raffle at Salon Dandi and met Roger and Mirta, discovered you can go anywhere in B.A by taxi for less than £3 and ate food that tasted better than you can imagine.

I cannot wait for a chance to return.

Hearing All sorts

Xmas 2005

Various dances around the region over Christmas, The first was Farndon social club christmas dance, dancing to Stevesound and his son Greg. The next was Northwich memorial hall Christmas buffet dance dancing to Roy Peters sound.

We also did the Trafford Centre dance but unfortunately I didn't take my camera. An exrtremely good do, free drink free mince pie and as much tee and coffee as you could manage, good dance music and NO charge. Shame I cannot manage more Tuesdays.

Danced to "Just Friends" at Ewloe Social Club Christmas Eve, with Doreen and Ralph had a thoroughly good time. Shame I forgot the Camera.

The regular Ewloe venue went ahead on the 28th. The crowd was a bit reduced, but Deryk and Geof put on a good show as usual. I think the cold snap kept some people at home, and of course some were away for Christmas.

The year was finished off with a New Years Eve Dance at Northwich, dancing to Sounds Easy agian. An excellent night yet again, but this year the roudy welsh crowd were eclipsed when the crowd from the potteries turned up. Nice to see them all there along with Dave Daker, brought back memories of St Annes. Started the new year with a hearty breakfast in the Floatel, strangely it was cheaper than last year and breakfast was included.

So here's to another year of dancing, welcome to 2006.
