Getting Ready To Ride
Thank you for your interest in my bike ride across Iowa, RAGBRAI 34 (Registers Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa for the 34th year in a row). This year's ride will include about 15,000 people riding 440 miles over seven days. Lance Armstrong will even ride with us one day! You start by dipping your back tire in the Missouri River and end seven days later by dipping your front tire in the Mississippi River. To learn more about the ride, visit www.ragbrai.org. The route we will be riding each day can be found at http://www.ragbrai.org/maps2006.html/. The ride raises funds for many Iowa charities.
In addition, I am dedicating my ride to the One Campaign and will be wearing my white "One" wristband all the way across Iowa. The One campaign does not collect funds but is a campaign to rasie awareness as to how we can hold our leaders accountable to the global Millenium Development Goals. You can learn more about the One Campagin at http://www.elca.org/advocacy/one/default.asp.
Thanks to all of you for your encouragement, prayers and support! I am both excited and nervous, which is to be expected. I have put in 1100 biking miles since the first week of May, so I hope I am ready for the first two and a half days of lots and lots of hills! I leave for Iowa soon to go spend a few days with my 100 year old Grandmother in the Clarence Iowa Nursing Home before the ride starts on Sunday, July 23rd.

Dear PR,
It is good to hear you are enduring this grueling physical challenge well! I am sure the RAGBRAI will bring you home with many, many excellent sermon illustrations! WOW! And you met Lance Armstrong in the flesh! Jeff, Alonzo, and our bike riding son, Matt, will all want to touch the hem of your garment! LOL
We have all been rooting for you here at home AND offered corporate prayer for you at worship last Sunday.....Pastor Marty Letlow and other worship leaders led a meaningful service and we had several children in attendance...NOT to worry, Cory and Debby stepped in to provide significant activity for them. God provides...
Grace and peace to you,

Hi,
I am sending you an update on Robyn. She is very occupied with the ride and has not had time to update the site. Janice and I caught up with her yesterday. All is going well. Robyn had a little trouble yesterday on the 70 mile leg of the trip. She did not eat enough the night before and lost some stamina but after some food was able to finish the ride. She now knows the importance of taking as many calories as your burn. She filled up last night and is doing fine.
On Tue. night they encountered some heavy rains and thunder storms so they spent the night in a YMCA. I think that took its toll on all of the riders. Not enough sleep.
Today is Thursday and the have a 77 mile ride facing them. After today the rides are in the 40 to 45 mile a day range.
The big news yesterday was that Lance Armstrong rode with the group. He spoke to the group last night and will ride with them again today. A really big deal if your a biker.
Robyn sends her best and thanks everyone for your support.
More later,

My hats off to you, Robyn. You'll do fine with this ride; you never tackle anything that you don't succeed. My prayers are with you and you'll feel much better if you check into a Holiday Inn to shower and sleep!
Hugs for all,
Ante J. in Rockford
PS: Oh, my very first blog! Hello to everyone... -
I talked with Roby at 9:00 PM Iowa time and the first day went well. They traveled 54 miles the wind was at their backs so it was a good breakinday. They were a little tired and were going to try to get some sleep. While they were setting up camp one of her bicycle tires blew out. She had a spare tube so they made the repair and she is ready to go for the morning.

Pastor Robyn... I am *very relieved* and happy to know that you are now
eating the required good nurtition necessary for enduring and fulfilling your
so generous hearts desire of offering this arduous marathon bike ride to help
greatly benefit meaningful charities and as a love offering to Jesus Christ and
God! Eating plenty of Pure Life Giving foods such a fresh fruits and vegetables;
even munching on organic raw broccoli and carrots and raisins and nuts from
a bag attached to you as you ride would help alot! Drink tons of water and
also drink anything that keeps your electrolytes up!
I am wondering what the temperature is in the area along your ride? It is amazing
that you had to experience a thunderstorm containing downpours of rain! Even
these can occur in hot weather. Here in Sacramento we have been experiencing
an all time record of a hot heat spell! More days of way into the triple digits than
have ever been in Sacramento before... many days in the 112 degree range...
even up to 115 in Stockton!
Pastor Marty did a superb job last Sunday! He is a wonderful person!
Pastor Robyn... We ALL Miss You So And Love You Very Much!
