Last weekend my daughter wanted to treat me to a movie. It had been awhile since we had gotten out to see anything. I was certainly open to seeing a movie. Besides it was once again RAINING (imagine that!) here in Washington.
She wanted to see 'Stop Loss' with Ryan Phillippe (the reason she wanted to see the movie - the hottie actor). Just a short summary here, a soldier returns back to the states after serving in Iraq but, is then recalled back to Iraq when he was supposed to be getting out of the Army. It's a controversial stature being used by the US Defense dept to extend soldiers combat time. The soldier doesn't want to return and finds himself in a no win situation.
Anyway, the movie ... it was a complete downer for me and had me leaving the theater in tears. I go to movies to escape reality! For that reason alone, I don't recommend the movie.
The pictures I'm sharing today - well, it's a dose of reality. I walked along, looking at the young faces full of promise. I read the notes from family and loved ones, saw the medals they earned.
The exhibit was paintings of the soldiers who lost their lives at the start of this war. It was a tear jerker of an exhibit. It's no longer up and the families now have the paintings of their soldiers. It's an exhibit I won't forget anytime soon. It makes you realize how precious life is.

I'm not sure I can stomache this movie right now, either. My son just left for boot camp, yesterday. They're so young, so much life ahead of them.

Yeah...there are certain subject matter that I avoid at the movies. War is a big one.

was this exhibit at Arlington? I think I saw something similar there when we were in DC in 2005. It was a touching exhibit and just brought the war so much more closer home to me
thanks for the movie review; I'm with you, I like movies with nice cheery endings, unlike life sometimes, know what I mean?

WOW...between the movie and the pictures I would need Prozac. How sad it all is.
