I am in fact

....alive!

No, no....no applause is necessary....really :-)

Thanks to all of you who e-mailed to check in and even those of you who poked and prodded me and wouldn't take no for an answer.

I'm not sure why I checked out.  Just didn't feel like writing.  Or facing things?  I'm not sure which.

School was back in full swing today for me and Princess and we both enjoyed our first day.

I had a little, uh, glitch (Got to campus at 1:30 for my 2:00 class and turned on my PDA to find out what room it was in and found out that it was actually my ONE o'clock class ... oops!)  I guess if that's the worst that happens this semester I can live with that.

I think this is going to be a good semester.  The one class I did make it to today was outstanding.  My prof is great and I think the work load won't be too overwhelming.

It was a little strange going to class on January 7 in short sleeves (albeit under a rain coat).  Another day of record high temperatures.  Snow on the way in a few days though!  Back to normal Michigan weather!

Late Night Mumblings

Never let it be said that I didn't warn you that Michigan was going to lose!  You'll get a kick out of this, though.  Dad & I decided we would skip most of the game and go see American Gangster.  We figured Denzel Washington & Russel Crowe held more promise than our Wolverines did in the enjoyable afternoon department.  (and on that note we were SO wrong!  Neither of us liked the movie much - although my 20 yr old cousing thought it was REALLY good...so there's your movie review for the day).  Anyway...

...we get home and mom is all excited.  Michigan is winning 21-7 she tells us.  So, there is a mad dash for the TV, turn it on and.....um, MOM!  It's 14-3 and Ohio State is winning NOT Michigan!  Well, I look again and there next to Ohio State is a yellow 7 and next to Michigan is a little 21.  Hmmm, I can see how she got confused.  MOM  Ohio State is ranked 7th and Michigan is ranked 21st.

She was having a blonde moment what can I say?

Now.  How do you feel about reading blogs written by doctors?  How about surgeons?  How about a gritty blog written by a surgeon who is stationed overseas and writes about his struggles treating our soldiers AND the occassional insurgent?  If your stomach can take some fairly descriptive stories, I suggest you go here

Maize 'n Blue

For a Michigan Fan, football is a religion...and the Ohio State game is our Easter.

Happy Easter everybody!

I've got the fixin's for my holiday meal tomorrow.  Shaved ham and yummy onion buns from the deli to make a sandwhich your mommy would be proud of.  An assortment of chips and dips and a big can of peanuts.  Chocolate, of course....uh, 'cause I'm a girl!

My favorite Michigan sweatshirt is clean and even when we lose I will proudly wear it all day!

Let's Go Blue!

Oh my word!

Who out there watches Criminal Minds?!!

Yes, I know, it's hard to take now that Mandy has left, but oh my word I could not believe the way they ended tonight!

I just knew from the start that something was wrong with that guy - but I figured he'd kidnap Garcia and then the team would have to find her.

I can't take the waiting to see how this all plays out!  Dang, I hope they wrote the ending before the strike started :-)

Pick Me!  Pick Me!!

If you're like me, you are always on the look out for another smart blogger who is going through some of the same trials that you are.  It's sort of a good feeling when you realize that you are NOT alone in some of the dark tunnels of your life.

Well, I found a site where I can browse through lots of mommy blogs.  Woo Hoo!  I love finding other mothers who are THIS close to strangling their own children - LOL

Feel free to check it out

Top Momma

Then if you really love me you once you get there you can click through to my other journal (you know, the more times you click through the longer my journal stays on the front page...and I just KNOW you love me that much!)

Here's the adorable picture of princess that you'll be looking for

Perspective

I have to admit, I have been sitting here feeling sorry for myself (sort of) this weekend.  You know, I love the internet.  But sometimes, there are just things that a person is better off not knowing.  There are things in my past that I have digested; learned to deal with.  I had no choice.

Take this for example:  I graduated from high school in 1985 and by some point in the early 90s I had to deal with the fact that somebody who graduated 2 years behind me (as in somebody who is YOUNGER than me) has her own action figure.  Wow.  That's a little mind blowing.  I went to a small school so while we weren't friends this is somebody that was basically part of the daily circle of people that I saw.  And she has a freakin' action figure.  (think X-files)

Not to long after that I got out of the Air Force.  I was back home, a (not all that) young mother and my best friend from high school and her husband bought a house in the suburbs (ya, one of the nice suburbs) of detroit because they were relocating.  They bought a 4 bedroom, although they had no children at the time, because it has better resale value.  I don't begrudge people their financial prosperity - it would just be nice not to be on this end of it all the time.

Now there's this weekend.  It turns out that another one of the wonderful women in my graduating class is the author of two "for dummies" books.  Meanwhile I have done...what?  with my life?

OK, so reading her bio it doesn't look like she has kids.  And as much as I love my best friend she chose to work through her children dropping them at daycare at 7am and not getting them to 6 each night, 5 days a week.  So I, at least, have that in my life.  My knowledge that I have done all I can for my two beautiful children.  And I AM doing something right now that I am passionate about, but come on!  I am so frustrated!  What wrong choice did I make that led me down this road?  Which path should I have taken to seize this worldly success that so many of my peers seem to have had no problem finding.  I know, I know, it's childish to think these things.  But come on!  Does this seem fair to anybody else out there??

Another one of my MANY pet peeves

As heard on my local news tonight "Under the new law, cities are now supposed to set their limits based on what 85 percent of drivers travel under normal, free-flowing conditions."

OY!  I feel so much safer now!  A while back our state expressway speed limits went from 55 to 70 in most places.  Somebody finally came out and just flat admitted that 70 was the speed most drivers were driving, so that's what the speed limit should be.  Gee, now that most drivers are driving 80 are we going to raise it again?  One of the roads they talked about in our local news tonight is right around the corner from me and the speed limit is 35.  Nobody (except sort of me) drives anywhere near 35 on this road.  It's just wrong.  The police officer had his radar gun out and checked a lot of cars and then announced that the speed limit should be 45 or 55 based on what drivers were driving.  Well, excuse me, but there are two huge distribution centers right there - which means BIG trucks.  And frankly I think it would be way nicer to be going 35 so those trucks have a chance to actually get out into the 4 lanes of traffic safely....  Just my silly opinion.

They did go on to say in the story that "The law spells it out exactly by writing what the local speed limit should be, based on access points -- driveways and intersections -- in a half-mile stretch."  I'd like to see those new standards.  They recently lowered the speed limit on my road from 35 to 30.  I have to say it's been 35 for the, well....for few years that I've been driving.  I still find myself forgetting!   But since I live on the street I figure I can drive as fast as I like?  Right?
