May 5th Sightings

Hi lights include Philadelphia Vireo among 5 Vireo species, Vesper Sparrow,Lincoln Sparrow;Worm-eating and Hooded Warblers; still respectable bird activity.

From Mary Eyster:

I took a leisurely walk to work (a few hours) this morning, starting near Bartel-Pritchard, along the SW edge, up the stairs then down behind the cemetery in the wooded basin.  There was a lot of song and variety -- probably ten species of warblers -- and a Lincoln's Sparrow at the base of the stairs.  I ran into a few other birders who reported Indigo Buntings (Rick's Place) and Tennessee.  Here's my list:

Observers :Scott Whittle, Peter Dorosh  10:45-11:15 am

A drab adult PHILADELPHIA VIREO went on a circuitous route above the Ravine's Rocky Pass ( main pedestrian path thru the ridge), over the road fork at the back end of Lower Pool, before ending up in a giant oak in the isthmus or between the Pools and eventually flying  away towards Long Meadow between the pools. It might hang around. Oaks were its main targets .Scott heard it singing.

From Mike Zablocky in GREENWOOD Cemetery

There was a Vesper Sparrow at the far end of Dell Water at 10 o'clock this
morning. The individual was a worn adult, very gray and washed out. Come to
think of it, I don't recall ever seeing a Vesper in fresh plumage. Anyway,
the Vesper was a consolation prize for having been unable to locate the Lark
Sparrow.
