What Up?,

The U.S.A. and Jamaica tied 1-1 Tuesday in an International Friendly (Why it's called a Friendly?  I don't know).  The game was important in two ways:  Goalkeeper Tony Meola recorded his 100th cap (soccer's term for international friendly).  Meola is the 9th U.S. player to reach 100 caps.  Also, it was the last game for U.S. players to impress coach Bruce Arena.  The game was the last before Arena selects 23 players to take to Germany for the World Cup.  Arena will announce the roster on May 2, and will confirm it May 15. Jamaican Teafore Bennett scored in the 4th minute to put Jamaica ahead 1-0.  "The first 15 or 20, we decided we were going press and try to score," Bennett said.  "We worked hard, and it paid off."  Also,  Ben Olsen scored in he 25th minute of a great pass from Landon Donovan.  Bruce arena will bring his team back to the SAS Soccer Park in Raleigh,  NC (where the game was held) next month to train for the World Cup.

Yo,

Kasey Kahne won the Samsung/RadioShack 500 becoming the 11th different winner in as many Nextel Cup races held at Texas Motor Speedway.  Kahne took the lead from Tony Stewart with 27 laps to go, Kahne built a 1.4-second lead over Stewart and Matt Kenseth before a caution flag for debris on the the track.  All three cars took four tires on the pit stop and came out in the same way they went in.  "The car got loose at the start.  It took us a while to get going." Kahne said.  "It was a heck of a run with Tony there."  the win earned Kahne his third career victory.  Matt Kenseth came in second and Tony Stewart came in third.

It's good to be Phil Mickelson.  Today, he won his second green jacket in 3 years as a late charge pulled his ahead to win the 2006 Masters.  Mickelson, who finished at 7-under-par 281, moved up to #2 in the world behind Tiger Woods, who finished with a 4-under 284.  He also earned $1.26 million, putting him atop the PGA Tour money list.  His only bogey on the day came at the last hole, where he missed the green to th left, chipped to 20 feet and settled for two putts.  Then he simply walked off the green with a smile and hugged his wife and children.  Tim Clark came in second with a 5-under 283.  Joining Tiger at 3rd place were Fred Couples, Retief Goosen, Chad Campbell and Jose Maria Olazabal, who all shot 4-under 284.  Mickelson,  who took 42 majors to finally win one, joined a group of 15 golfers with multiple Masters.  The next major is the U.S. Open which is June 16-19.

   Thanks,

        Nick

Hello,

The Wisconsin Badgers won their sixth national title with a 2-1 win over Boston College.  Robbie Earl scored a goal and was named the Most Outstanding Player.  Earl scored off of a great pass by Adam Burish.  "I took my licks, but it's well worth it," Earl said.  "I saw the opportunity and I saw a chance to score, and I took it.  It was just a great, great pass.  That's how our season has been going all year.  It's about heart and being relentless."  Wisconsin finished the season 30-10-3.  Their victory gave the Western Collegiate Hockey Association its fifth straight title.  "It was everything it lived up to be in our dreams, " said Ryan MacMurchy, a senior.  "We got it done with blood, sweat and tears."

Kasey Kahne (190.315) won the pole for the Samsung/RadioShack 500 today after completing only 374 laps at the last race in Martinsville.  "I've been happy all year with the way things have gone.  We've had momentum all year, even with last week," Kahne said.  "We had a car that was capable of probably running in the top three.  Things like that happen, and it was nobody's fault, and it's been fixed since then."  J.J. Yeley (189.374) qualified second and Mark Martin (189.029) qualified third.  You can watch this race on FOX at 2 p.m. ET.

3 seeded Francesca Schiavone will face #1 seed Nadia Petrova in the Women's Bausch & Lomb Championships Final.  Schiavone has not won a title in 9 years.  "Something very personal," she said after a long sigh.  "To prove myself, to keep going and believe in myself.  it's just not a trophy for me.  It's all that I did to arrive there.  It's the most beautiful present that I could receive."  Schiavone beat 5th seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semi-final after Kuznetsova had to retire because of a groin injury.  Petrova got passed Jill Craybas in the semi-finals to reach the final.  This is what Petrova had to say about facing Schiavone:  "She's a very tough competitor, she just doesn't give up at any stage of the match.  She just goes for it and brings everything back.  Either I have to play great tennis to beat her or I need to make the points shorter.  Of course, serving well would help me a lot, too."  You can watch this match on ESPN2 at 2 p.m. ET.

Players from the Serie A team Inter Milan were attacked at Malpensa airport after returning from a Italian League victory.  Fans were attacking because of Milan's unexpected elimination from the Champions League.  The fans inside the airport were shouting insults as the team arrived overnight, police said.  Then, outside the terminal, in a parking lot, some masked fans turned violent, leaving Midfielder Cristiano Zanetti with a bruise on his head.  Two police officers were injured when they were trying to defend the players.  "We can't accept that the disappointment can tuurn into violence. ... We can't tolerate what happened at Malpensa airport,"  Inter president Giacinto Facchetti said.  Also, AS Roma coach Luciano Spalletti called the fans' conduct "a cowardly attack."

Ryan Lochte of the U.S.A. set a world record for the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 49.05 seconds at the FINA Short Course World Championships.
