A great podcast I've listened to for a few times is called Pro Football Talk Radio. Here's what one of the great podcasters has to say as I ask a few questions about what he does on the show.

Powergoalie14 (8:09:50 PM): why did you start a podcast? any special reason?

LEFTY120491 (8:12:09 PM): well i was very interested in becoming a sports broadcaster when i grow up and i thought this would be a great head start in that direction. I also love to get my opinion out to people about sports and sound off on issues. I wanted Jimmy to sign on with me because we are best friends and he is such a football fanatic and I thought it would be a great thing if he could use his knowledge somewhere other then when we play stump the schwab's leading off game within our group of friends all the time. He's got alot of talent for breaking down football.

Powergoalie14 (8:15:04 PM): Are you thinking of getting a few sports players on the show some day?

LEFTY120491 (8:16:02 PM): Well that definitely would be a hard thing to do considering all of the media hype and contracts surrounding sports figures these days. I would certainly love to talk to a real live athlete but we'll stick with the writers for now!

Powergoalie14 (8:35:22 PM): A lot of people look at other people for there knowledge of sports and the things they're most interested in. I'm not really one of those people. I hope that if they're a good person in general the next thing I look for is their interests. Do you think you could make it as a broadcaster not only on your passion and knowledge for sports, but for you as a person in general also?

LEFTY120491 (8:40:06 PM): I think that on my talent and what i have done so far, its going to be hard because if there's one thing ive learned from my time in this business so far its that there are going to be people who you just want to have nothing to do with because their rude and they don't give you a chance to follow your dream. Don't ever let people take away an opportunity from you especially when you have the confidence in your self to succeed and do better. If i make it to the big time, I will have one special memory: The fact that I had no connections and I did every little thing on my own time and by myself. I got myself to where i am, no body else helped me. I accomplished something with no one's guidance, just my own true spirit achieved that goal. I'll never forget that.

This guy is amazing. His dream is to be a sports broadcaster, and as far as I'm concerned, he is living his dream already! He has a lot of confidence in himself, and he does have a friend Jimmy helping cover football but doing all the sports with him also, but he did all of the podcast creating (I think so), and all his parents did was let him start one, and hopefully keep supporting him. You can get to his podcast by logging on to www.profootballtalkradio.360thepitch.com.

Subject: This T-ball Coach is a Moron
Time: 5:31:58 PM EDT
Author:  puck9314
Mood:  Happy

A baseball coach accused of offering an 8-year-old money to bean an autistic teammate so he couldn't play was convicted Thursday of two lesser charges against him, and evaded more serious charges.

A jury convicted 29-year-old Mark R. Downs Jr. of corruption of minors and criminal solicitation to commit simple assault, Fayette County authorities said.

Downs was acquitted of criminal solicitation to commit aggravated assault, and jurors said they were deadlocked on a charge of reckless endangerment. The judge declared a mistrial on the endangerment charge.

Authorities said Downs offered to pay one of his T-ball players $25 to hit a 9-year-old autistic teammate with a ball while warming up before a June 2005 playoff game.

The verdict means the jury believed that Downs asked his player to hurt his teammate, but that the jury did not feel that the autistic boy -- who suffered bruises and an infected ear -- suffered "serious bodily injury," District Attorney Nancy Vernon said. Aggravated assault and reckless endangerment both require authorities to prove that serious bodily injury occurred or was intended to occur.

"Certainly, the bruising on the ear fortunately did not amount to serious bodily injury," Vernon said. "That's what [the verdict] boiled down to. It vindicates the fact the little boys, the jury believed they were telling the truth."

Downs took the stand and denied offering to pay Keith Reese Jr. to hurt Harry Bowers, his mildly autistic and mildly retarded teammate.

Earlier in the trial, Reese testified about Downs' offer, saying he purposely threw a ball that hit Bowers in the groin, then threw another ball that hit him in the ear on Downs' instructions. Bowers also testified about being hit by the balls Reese threw during pregame warmups.

Reese's father, Keith Sr., testified that Downs acknowledged after the game that he did something "ignorant" and confessed to the deed. When Downs called the elder Reese a liar during his testimony Wednesday, Reese shouted back "You're a liar," prompting the judge to restore order.

Jury forewoman Michele Lynn, a 28-year-old medical office manager, said the jury believed that Downs told his player to harm his teammate, but they didn't believe his injuries were serious enough to warrant the aggravated assault and reckless endangerment charges.

"I myself didn't believe he caused any serious bodily harm," Lynn said.

The jury didn't believe Downs, in part, because doing so would have required them to believe that all of the prosecution witnesses, including the two boys, were lying.

"His whole demeanor was flat, he was inexpressive," Lynn said of Downs. "That led me to believe he was not telling the truth. He would corrupt any young children's morals."

Downs, the boys, and their families left the courtroom without commenting, but Downs' attorney, Thomas Shaffer, promised to appeal.

Shaffer said he believes Judge Ralph Warman erred by not letting him call a witness who would have testified that Reese's stepmother called the whole incident "a misunderstanding."

"In reality, the truth did not come out," Shaffer said.

The maximum sentence for the Downs' crimes is five years in prison, but under Pennsylvania sentencing guidelines he likely faces only probation when he's sentenced Oct. 12 because he is not known to have a criminal record. Vernon said she will not argue for a particular sentence, leaving the matter entirely to the judge's discretion.

"This is a serious breach of sportsmanlike conduct," Vernon said.

Music:  a 9/11 story on the news

To start this off, I need to say something about the September Eleventh tradgedy.

I was in pre-school when the first plane crashed into the first twin-tower, or also known as the twin-pines. My dad was on an airplane getting ready to fly to St. Louise and he was about 5 seconds away from getting off the ground. They immediately pulled the emergency brake and said that there was a terrible crash in New York, and to get off of the plane A.S.A.P. he was thinking what in the world was going on and then when they told him I guess he was worried about us more than him. My mom was wondering if his plane was one of the other 15 planes that was going to be highjacked. Luckey us, his didn't. But here's a story brought to this blog by AOL News.

At the Pentagon and on a wind-swept Pennsylvania field, and in simpler, quiet moments in airport security lines, at churches or by themselves, Americans paused to reflect on the worst terrorist act on U.S. soil. The centerpiece of the commemorations was the mostly barren 16-acre expanse at ground zero, where four moments of silence were observed to mark the precise times jetliners crashed into the twin towers and the skyscrapers crumbled to the ground. The achingly familiar task of reading the names of the 2,749 trade center victims fell this year to their husbands, wives and partners, who personalized the roll call with heartbreaking tributes to the loves of their lives. "If I could build a staircase to heaven, I would, just so I could quickly run up there to have you back in my arms," said Carmen Suarez, wife of city police officer Ramon Suarez, killed five years ago at the World Trade Center. And this from Linda Litto, who lost husband Vincent Litto: "As I said 31 years ago tomorrow, I will love you and honor you all the days of our life. Happy anniversary, my love."

I'm glad to say that a lot of people were saved by many heros. Thanks to those volenteer firefighters who died in the 9-11 terror.

Subject: Detroit, The City Of Champs!

The Arco Arena court was quiet and clean, with not one confetti peice or streamers.  The crowd thought it would see the Monarchs' coronation Wednesday. Instead, the Sacramento players got tickets back to Detroit for the decisive Game 5 in the WNBA finals. The Detroit Shock WNBA team of All-Stars basically, won there second WNBA championship in four years. So now Detroit is a city of Champions! If only the Lions were good. Katie Smith scored 22 points, Cheryl Ford had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and the Detroit Shock tied the finals with an emphatic 72-52 victory in Game 4. "We understand that they had everything ready for a celebration, but we really wanted to get it back to Detroit," Cash said. "We came together in the last two days. When we play as a team, it's about us getting the championship." While not just winning the championship game, the Shock also broke Sacromento's home playoff streak. Wow. What a team!

Click here to view a larger image.

Nice job Shock! i think that they are a great team and will continue to be a great team. They have it all and when they put all of their team's skill and confidence to work, they can destroy any team any day.

Sorry for such a long delay......no excuses. But now we're getting a mix of sports blogging, school, and hockey so, for the blog's sake, I'm going to post every day unless I'm on vacation or am not here for some reason. Every week I'll throw in a score board type of thing for any sport, do some trivia every now and then. So here's the begining of a brand new blog (without deleting it, gonna keep this one and have it as the one I'm posting on)!

Subject: The Scoreboard
Time: 1:07:44 PM EDT
Author:  puck9314
Mood:  Chillin'
Music:  OutKast

Today here's a little scoreboard type of thing.

Minnesota beat Chicago 5-4 yesterday night, but the game had a weird ending. After Posednik got a single and went to second on a pick-off attemt,Dye hit a foul-fly on the first-baseline. As Twins first baseman Justin Morneau tried to make the catch, a fan reached over and interfered and the ball was knocked out of his glove. But the first base umpire Andy Fletcher called Dye out to end the game. "The fan definitely reached over into fair play and interfered with the fielder's opportunity to make the catch," Fletcher said. "He got in his way. I believe he would have made the catch had the fan not have been there." Gullen didn't even argue. He said himself that it was a fair call and had agreed that if that fan wouldn't of been there, he would of caught it anyway. I think that the fan should of been banned for interfeiring with the game, even though they made the most fair call. You can't just reach out and knock the ball out of someone's glove and interfeir with the game like that. But it was interesting to see Ozzie Guillen not argueing.

The New York Yankees lost to the Los Angeles Angels 6-5, a tight game. Johnny Damon took the first at bat, but has to put up with a fly out at left feild. Angels bottom of the second, Adam Kennedy triples with a strong hit to center feild, next up Jose Molina hits a groung rule double to bring in Adam Kennedy....end of the inning 3-0. Top of 4th Aaron Guiel singles to right field, Robinson Cano scores, Jorge Posada to second. Johnny Damon hits infield single, Jorge Posada scores, Aaron Guiel to third. End of Game End of game score 6-5. I think it was a tight and fair match-up, but I wish it was the other way around, with the Yankees winning. Atleast no fans inerfeired with the game th way the Angels game did. This was a good game though. Most of the players played very well, and the Yankees accepted the loss.

My favorite baseball team, the Tigers, also played yesterday against the Cleveland Indians. They lost though. hat was an unuseually played game, but good. Don't have much to say about it. I think the Tigers will still win the division this year. They useually make these amazing comebacks.

Mets vs Pillies was a great game. two of my favrites. Bottem of the fifth,  Carlos Beltran hits a two-run home-run. Nothing much happended in the game, I think Beltran will get the MVP for the division. GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! End of game, score 4-3 Philly.I wish the Mets woulda won, but I like the Pillies to.

One more game.......Red Sox v.s the Mariners. Red Sox lost 6-0 in a pretty good game. I'm glad they lost because I'm a Yankees fan (don't say a word). Chris Snelling of Seattle scores the first the first run off a double by Roul Ibanez. Not much else to say, but good game played.

Chris Snelling
