It's my right to move, moron!
Not a bad start to the week, all in all. I got the 6:42 from Medford, which wasn't quite as crowded as it had been last Monday, and changed to the 7:19 express at Ronkonkoma. It was an M-7 consist, but otherwise was a decent trip. I got the window seat of a 2-across - not that I'd dare try a 3-across on an M-7, of course - and a man of average size took the aisle seat just as we got underway. There was enough room, and to my mild surprise the ride was less bumpy than usual for an M-7. We were a few minutes late into Penn due to some delays at entering the East River tunnel. The conductor didn't announce the cause for the delay, which I suppose was okay as it only lasted maybe five minutes. I then had to wait less than a minute to get a 1 train to Houston Street, though it was rather busy and we were delayed a couple of minutes by trackwork just north of 14th.
Did you know that Houston Street station has a waterfall? Yep, it sure does, at least during rainstorms like the one this afternoon. Water was pouring down at quite a clip onto the uptown platform a couple car lengths from its northern end. There was just enough room for people to squeeze by without getting wet. I got to watch this for a few minutes while waiting for a 1 train. Following a quick change to a 2 at 14th, I got to Penn just in time to catch the 5:22 express to Ronkonkoma. Once again it was an M-7 consist, so I got the window seat of a 2-across. A skinny young man wearing a dress shirt and tie, not the full SCA outfit, took the aisle seat and began playing a hand-held video game of some sort. The ride was pretty much uneventful, except for some slow running near Mineola, until just before the Brentwood stop, when I decided to get up and stand the rest of the way. The video game player gave me a real attitude about moving so I could get up, giving me a really nasty stare and then moving with exaggerated slowness. What was the schmuck's problem? He certainly must know that people do have to get up as trains approach stops. I swear, had he been any slower I would have chucked him right into the aisle. At least the arrival at Ronkonkoma was on-time, as was the shuttle to Medford.
Gym: no weights tonight, just some treadmill and ski-machine work.
