Seeing double
Weird. That's all I can say. It wasn't apparent in the morning that anything would be odd. I got the shuttle from Medford, and for variety's sake I got the 7:04 express from Ronkonkoma to Penn. It wasn't as crowded as usual, with the seat next to me remaining empty until a woman sat in it at Farmingdale. She was South Asian, about 25 to 30, and relatively small - I'd say about 5'2" to 5'4" and in the range of 110 to 115 pounds. I don't usually notice much about other peoples' clothing (except for suits on men, of course), but I did notice that she was wearing a blue shirt, as it was a quite vivid shade of blue. The ride itself was wholly uneventful, featuring a few games of cell phone Tetris, and we got to Penn on time. There were some delays being announced on the 2 and 3 expresses due to a "passenger needing medical attention" (probably another skell with the vapours) at 72nd Street, but the 1 train was running as usual and I waited just a couple of minutes for a train to Houston Street.
I left work somewhat later than usual, too late to get the 5:22 to Ronkonkoma even with a very fast subway transfer at 14th Street, but I made the 5:41 with no trouble. Just before departure a woman took the seat next to me ... she was South Asian, 25 to 30, about 5'2" to 5'4" and weighing about 110 to 115 pounds ... and oh yes, she was wearing a blue shirt. In other words, she was just like the woman who sat next to me in the morning in terms of ethnicity, age, height and weight, and wore a similar-colored if less vivid shirt. I will add that she was definitely not the same woman as in the morning, as facially they were quite different. Of course after more than a decade of regular commuting it's probably not surprising that a coincidence (if that's the correct term) of this sort would occur, but it's still a bit weird. Oh, she got off at Hicksville, which is just a couple of stops from Farmingdale, where the morning's rider boarded. Pondering the situation helped make the ride to Ronkonkoma and the shuttle pass quite quickly, though with a somewhat slow Ronkonkoma Crawl.
Gym: Boxing took center stage tonight, so to speak. I worked the speed bag for about ten minutes, getting a pretty decent rhythm if I may say so. The bag had been re-inflated sometime today and was as hard as a rock, which didn't bother me at the time but caused by hands to start aching a bit after I left the gym. Following the speed bag, I worked the heavy bag for four 3-minute rounds. I counted my punches in each round, doing so in the aggregate rather than by punch type. My punch count was surprisingly consistent in each round - 177, 183, 175 and 178 - even though I wasn't consciously trying for equal numbers. This works out to just about one punch per second, not a bad pace. After finishing with the heavy bag I did trap bar deadlifts, which as I've noted are more like reverse squats: 6 x 225, 6 x 255, 2 x 6 x 275, 2 x 6 x 225. I finished with cable rows, 3 x 8 x 180.
