Another old barn in Greensboro

Photo Trek 03-12-2006, W Friendly Ave, Greensboro, NC

I had seen this barn several times in passing, and always thought what a nice scene tucked away in the middle of a growing city.  I could never find the angle I wanted to photograph it from, until I found myself in a parking lot on the other side of the barn from the road.  From here, the white fence is visible, and as a bonus the setting sun was behind me.  This gave several of the pictures I took a nice warm glow.

Something that was unplanned on this trek was the moon.  It was full, and right above the barn.  However, this picture is a bit deceiving.  Yes, the moon was located in that spot in the sky, however, it was about a quarter of the size.  The picture looked OK, but the moon got lost in the expanse of sky.  I knew this would happen when I took the picture, so I took another shot of the moon itself.  This time I used the full zoom (200mm) to capture the moon alone in the sky.  This is similar to a double exposure on film.  However, in this case, I can not double expose the memory card at the scene.  I was able to add the close up of the moon in later using Microsoft Picture It!  While I do consider this digital manipulation, it is nothing that could not have been accomplished with film.

On this trek, I shot 19 frames which I whittled down to six prints.  Currently, two of them are posted in my gallery.  Only three of them will make it into my portfolio.

What I love about this particular subject is that I know all that is going on around it.  Less than a mile away a new highway is being built.  Behind my location is a very large assisted living facility, and there is a large high school located just down the five lane road.  However, from the vantage point I chose, nobody would know...except for those of you who follow my treks.
