Almost up and running
As you can see from the above picture, I am well on my way to having things ready to go. The new computer came today and I have been working with it for the last 14 hours to get things squared away. About an hour ago, I did a test print of one of my existing documents to see how they looked on the new printer. I must say, I am impressed both with the printer and with the quality of the Sony F828 files. Quiet Reflection was designed as an 8 x 10 print and without any modifications from Photo Shop CS3 I was able to print a lovely 13 x 19 print at just under 200ppi which is nearly perfect for this size print. I don't have the 17 inch paper to do a test print there, but I am thinking that without some manipulation of the image, that might be a bit large for the existing portfolio. I'm OK with that as 13 x 19 is more than I expected from the tiny sensor in the F828.
Here is the new CPU...it is about twice the size of the last one, and much more capable. It is a Dell XPS420 with a dual core processor. The small box beside it is a Western Digital 500GB external hard drive I am using for file backup. With all the hard drives in place, I now have 2TB of storage. I should be good to go for a long time to come.
Here is the setup as it sits now. I will be cleaning up the cords under the desk pretty soon, but for now I have them loose so I can change things around as needed. To the left you will see the venerable HP deskjet 5650 in the same place it has occupied for the last six years. It is a wonderful printer and I will still be using it for my daily printing needs and for proofs of my photos. You will also see what looks to be a keyboard close to the left side of the picture....it is.
Until my conversion is complete, I will be running dual computers. There are still files that I need on my previous computer, as well as some programs that I have not installed on the new machine yet. Until that all happens, I will have both of the machines up and running.
I'm sorry I have not had many new pictures this month...as you can see, I have been quite busy lately with all this new stuff. Things are starting to calm down and I am getting the hang of everything new now. Look for some new pictures in the near future. Right now, the biggest hurdle is going to be learning Photo Shop. There is a lot more to it than there was with Microsoft Picture It!, but I embrace the challenge and the flexibility I will have with PS.
