Reviews: Lowepro Rezo 50

When my wife purchased her first digital camera, a Canon A720 IS, she wanted a small bag to keep it safe from bumps and dings. We went to several stores looking for one that would fit her needs. What we discovered was that the Canon was a bit thicker than the majority of compacts. While this is great for holding onto the camera, it presented a problem when finding a camera bag that would properly fit the camera.

After looking at the offerings from Tamrac, Quantaray, and even Canon, we found this Lowepro Rezo 50. It was the last one on the shelf. It had just what we needed in a camera bag, a main compartment that secured by zipper on three sides, with a bellows flap at the hinged area to keep anything from dropping out. The A720 fit like a glove in the compartment, and because of the design, there was no tight squeeze needed to slip the camera into the pouch.

There is enough room left at the top of the bag to fold the wrist strap up and keep it with the camera. A very nice touch to the interior of this bag is the tricot-lining. This is a very soft, almost velour fabric that lines both sides of the main compartment. This is very important because the LCD screen found on a digital camera can be a delicate part, and easily scratched.

Once you open the flap on the front, you will have access to another zippered compartment that has room for several memory cards and small batteries. To the rear of the bag, you will find a belt strap that is secured by not only Velcro, but a snap lock as well. You will not easily loose this camera bag if you like to keep it on your belt. There is also a neck strap that can be attached if you prefer.

The entire bag is made of ballistic nylon and seems to be quite durable and well made. The zippers all have substantial pulls on them so quick retrieval of the items inside is possible. The belt strap is also designed to do double duty on this bag. It can be attached to other Lowepro Bags via the Sliplock System which is compatible with the belt strap...how's that for handy?

Final Thoughts...

The Lowepro Rezo 50 is a great camera bag for the family photographer that likes to have their compact digitals close at hand. Being just a little bigger than my closed fist, this bag is unobtrusive, and with the belt strap, easy to carry. No more will you have the excuse...If I only had my camera.

My only gripe about this bag, is that the secondary pocket on the front is a bit too small to hold many batteries. If you are going out for an extended time, and your camera goes through batteries quickly, you will more than likely have to keep some extra batteries elsewhere. I think this bag will hold 2 AA sized batteries without a problem though.

While I don't have any significant gripes, I also don't have a whole lot to say about any standout features of this bag. There are two things that warrant a rating of "Above Average" though. The first is the lining in the main compartment. That was a very nice touch for a bag under ten bucks. Also, the bellows opening main compartment was the primary selling point for this bag when used with a thicker than average compact. This raises it above what I would consider average in this category.

It seems that Lowepro is dependable in all sizes and the prices are usually good too.

Ahhh, now that sounds more like what I need right now. I've been keeping my little camera in a zippered pocket of my purse. It fits there fine but has no protection. My screen is already pretty scratched up.
For something like this I'd say it is shopping time! Martha :-)
