Random Tidbits.....and my return

Yeah, I went on hiatus with my Sports Blogs for the summer and this one kind of alos went that way.  And my sports blogs are still on hiatus.  I think I am going to consolidate everything into one job and make this blog like the title says...My Random Universe.

So yeah, now you will see everything here.

Let's get it started!!!

So Reese and Ryan are done.  Sheesh.  Another celebrity couple that I like bites the dust.  I realize that in the world of Hollywood almost nothing is sacred anymore, but this was one of the couples I rooted for. My best to them and their children.

My football teams both won yesterday.  The Colts played a great game against Denver.  Not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing, but they kind of remind me of the 01-02 Lakers.  They kind of just play and go through it during the first three quarters and flip the switch in the 4th and do what they have to do.  Hope that means it will translate into a title just like it did with those Lakers.

Speaking of the Lakers......THE SEASON STARTS TOMORROW!!!!!  It has been a long off-season.  I am looking forward to basketball again.

Tomorrow also happens to be Halloween.  After a couple of years off we are more or less going back to our traditional Halloween plans.  After I take the kid out for a little bit of trick or treating (he's dressing up as Elmo) we are going to just kick back, relax, have some pizza, watch basketball and make a fire (if it's cold enough).

Happy Basketball and Halloween.

Hearing The 111 Worst Songs Ever

Long time no speak

I love lists.  When I signed on to AOL today I saw that on the front page they had the 111 Worst Songs Ever.  I thought it would be a list, but it wasn't.

AOL radio is counting them down and playing them.  "Jump" by Kriss Kross just finished and now I am listening to "Informer" by Snow.  Yeah, they might be bad songs, but both of them have instantly taken me back to high school.

Life is Beautiful

Life is good.

The Lakers are back in the playoffs.

My little guy is just as adorable as ever.

My husband is just as great as ever.

ALIAS is back.

Prison Break is still good.

I have a new HBO Show (Big Love).

My house is clean.

I got to eat at my new favorite restaurant last night.

Who can complain?

Well, sure, of course I have some things I can complain about, like the medical tests I am undergoing in about a week, or the cost of gas, but why?

I don't think we take enough time to stop and smell the roses or to just be happy with what we have in life.

For most of us, even on what we think is our worst day...there is someone out there that has it a million times worse.  If we all put our energy into helping them instead of complaining about what we don't have, or the work we have to do, there could be so much less suffering in the world.

Right now, go find a charity and donate some time or money, you'll be happy you did.

Hearing Earth, Wind and Fire

Rumblings

First off, there needs to be more choices under the "moods" category.  So often I resort to "chillin'" because there isn't a better choice that more accurately describes my mood.

I am sick.  I have some cold thing.  Ears, nose, throat, "achy" body, chills, you name it.  Came down with it sometime on Friday it seems on our way back from the mountains. BTW-the little guy didn't care much for the snow.  He enjoyed sledding a few times but then I think he just got cold and tired of being out there.

The Lakers lost again (two in a row) and have a game tonight.  We'll see what happens.

Saw a bunch of family yesterday.  It was wonderful.  It was hubby's side and some we hadn't seen in a few years since they moved to Arizona.  9 kids 5 and under in one house.  YIKES!!

Entertainment Weekly has named "Stayin' Alive" as the worst movie sequel ever.  Am I crazy for kind of liking that movie?  I like Finola Hughes, and I am a former dancer so it kind of appealed to me.  It didn't do a GREAT job of following up Saturday Night Fever and that was kind of the point, so I guess it deserved a spot on their list, but number one??

Wentworth Miller, I mean Prison Break, comes back tonight.  I can't wait.  I am playing to make popcorn LOL!  I really need to get a life don't I?

And ALIAS comes back a month from yesterday!!!

Hearing Depeche Mode-World in My Eyes

BAD MOOD

Can I possibly have been in a worse mood over the last few days?  I'm not sure.

Don't get me wrong-there were a couple of good moments mixed in--going to my in-laws to see the snow, and hubby and child being nice, cute and charming...BUT

First Edgerrin James signs with the Cardinals Sunday successfully putting a GIANT wrench in the Colts offense next season.

Then the Lakers lose to Seattle after beating the World Champion Spurs on the road only two days before.  And Kobe acts more like a child than my son does.

Then Drew Brees made a deal to go to the Saints today.  Which means that the Chargers offense is also officially seriously in pain.

I still held out hope that those guys would somehow end up signing with their respective teams again.  Oh Well!

And I am frustrated because the Lakers are playing the Kings tonight and I have NO idea which team is actually go to show up.  Add to that that it's in Sacrament, AND if we lose we are not only booted out of the 7th playoff spot (by them) but booted out of the 8th (and final spot) by the Hornets.

I am just hoping an embarrassed and focused Laker team with something to prove shows up in Sacto tonight and mops the court with the Kings.

The other alternative I have in mind is too ugly to mention.  I'll let you know which team showed up after the game.

Feeling Quiet
Hearing You're Beautiful-James Blunt

It's storming like crazy here.  Wasn't there a song that said "it never rains in Southern California?"  Well, that's a lie.

I had what I swear were snow flurries yesterday and alternating rain and hail today.  I've had a fire going since 10 am.

I love when the weather is like this and I don't have to go anywhere.  It's nice to curl up by the fire and watch the tube (of course while paying attention to the Kid LOL).

Any Alfred Hitchcock movie goes well with weather like this, and Gone With the Wind is a total rainy day movie.  I also like to pop in my ALIAS or Six Feet Under DVDs and watch a block of episodes for the umpteenth time (have I mentioned how much I love these two shows?)

I just found out a couple of days ago that a friend of mine has gotten into Six Feet Under.  She is just starting the fourth season, but of course I told her to feel free to discuss with me any time.  That show can't help but foster discussion.  I just wish that I knew that she was into it sooner.

Another friend of mine was renting the DVDs and watching the final season repeat on HBO.  The series finale was last week and I caught it too.  I called her when it was over and she answered the phone sobbing.  The song "Breathe Me" by  Sia will forever make me bawl. For those that have no idea what I am talking about, get off your couch and go buy those Six Feet Under DVDs.  How can you resist a DVD set with this artwork?

Six Feet Under - The Complete First Season

Six Feet Under - The Complete Second Season

Six Feet Under - The Complete Third Season

Six Feet Under - The Complete Fourth Season

Six Feet Under - The Complete Fifth Season

Feeling Chillin'
Hearing The Doobie Brothers Greatest Hits

Woah

I'll try to be more vigilant about updating....It's just...well the holidays and then the recovery time, and then running three blogs and then.......OK, I'll just try to update more.

Heather Locklear has filed for divorce!!!  What?!?!?!  Another celebrity couple that I thought was doing pretty well.  Just sad.  I wish them all the best.

I've been really into cooking lately.  I've always been into cooking, but the last few months I've really gotten serious about it.  I've bought a few new toys (some Santoku knives and a deep fryer) and am having fun creating dishes, appetizers and desserts right and left.  Hubby is loving this.

The little guy is getting big, fast!  We have to come up with contraption after contraption to keep him out of stuff.  And we are on contraption # 3 for keeping him in his crib.  But he is still as cute as ever.

I'm in the midst of an ALIAS fest.  I was into the TNT reruns in the afternoons and watched all the way to the middle of season 3 and then they pulled them to move ALIAS to late night on Wed/early Thurs.  It starts this coming week, but they are going back to the beginning of Season 1.  So I had to pull out the DVDs and now I am planning to watch through seasons 3 and 4 ( in the shooting order, NOT the airing order) and what has aired of 5 so far to gear up for the show's finale.

ABC released a misdeason schedule and ALIAS is conspicuously missing, but they'd better air the final episodes or there will be a ton of ALIAS devotees breaking down the door.

Obsessed?

Yeah a little.  ALIAS was on of the few shows that totally sucked me in.  I don't own too many shows on DVD.  I own The first seasons of the Muppet Show and Alfred Hitchcock Presents for playful and nostalgic reasons.  I own every season released so far for both ALIAS and Six Feet Under because of their complex characters, and incredible multi-layered storytelling.  With ALIAS ending this year and Six Feet Under already gone, we'll see if another show can affect me the way these two did.  Prison Break is a new favorite of mine so it might fill the void....

Oh, yeah speaking of ALIAS, congrats to Ben and Jen on baby Violet.

Changing gears..What's with the contestants on American Idol?  The "bad" auditions have to be jokes and engineered by the producers.  We all know by now, that despite having the title "reality show" a great deal of all of them are produced and written. Having dabbled a little in singing myself I can't fathom how some of these people can actually think they have a decent voice, or that others have told them that they have good voices.

I'm also a little appalled at Simon's constant picking on overweight and gay contestants.  I'm even more appalled that the producers are airing it.  As if this country doesn't have enough discrimination, now we are funneling it down to the youth that watch the show, purposely no less!!  Come on producers, have a little more compassion for humanity and less zeal for ratings.  You're going to get the ratings anyway.  Does it have to be at the expense of others?

I've said a mouthful.  I promise the next update won't too far down the line.

Feeling Sad
Hearing Bobby Darin

Let's talk Turkey

Thanksgiving was a nice affair.

The turkey came out pretty good, and the rest of the stuff was done at the same time.  I hate when things aren't ready at the same time.  My mom is notorious for this.  A lot of times when you are eating a meal she cooks something will be really piping hot while another thing is lukewarm and something else is already cold.  I simply try to plan so that everything is ready at the same time.

The kiddo had a great time.  He was the only kid in a sea of parents and grandparents and he ate it up.  He also ate a lot.  He put me to shame.

My Thanksgiving eve was kind of sad.

The news that Nick and Jessica were no longer newlyweds kinda bummed me out a bit.  It's not like I own any music by either one of them or anything like that.  Sure, I caught the show several times.  It just makes me sad when couples split.  Especially when it has to be so public.  I really feel sorry for celebrities, they can't do anything without it being on the front cover of people the next week.  Marriage is hard enough as it is sometimes without your every move being analyzed and reanalyzed on every TV program and in every tabloid.  Leave these poor people alone.  The Jennifer Aniston/Brad Pitt split crushed me as well, let's just hope that Nick has more respect for Jessica than Brad apparently has for Jen.

After much speculation,ABC also announced that they are sticking a fork in ALIAS.  This will be the show's last season.  The show just never got the ratings it could have or should have.  Of course I blame ABC for much of this since they have scarcely promoted the show the last couple of years.  There are only two more episodes until the show takes a break to accommodate Jennifer Garner's maternity leave, and I'm hoping when the show returns they'll give the loyal viewers and the character of Sydney Bristow the ending they deserve.

I think, much like  "Fastlane" this show was ahead of it's time.  Had it come out the last couple of years I have no doubt that it could have been a ratings hit instead of just a critical one.  The show premiered right after 9/11 and I think that people were hesitant to tune into a show complete with CIA agents battling terrorists.  Not only that, the show was famous for it's crazy cliff hangers the first few seasons and I don't think that was the type of show people were looking for at the time.

Fastlane would be awesome if it were on now.  It was like watching a movie every week.  Fox put it in an awful time slot on Fridays so it never generated an audience because the people that this show would appeal to were probably out.

And.....if all this wasn't bad enough my "Prison Break" goes on hiatus after tonight.  Hurry back!!

The Chargers won yesterday, the Lakers lost, and the Colts have a HUGE Monday Night Football game tonight.  Wish them luck.
