The Melting Pot in shades of brown won 61 million from FedEx
Edgar Rizkallah and Kamil Issa, two men of Lebanese descent won a 61 million dollar lawsuit against FedEx. I was disgusted that this manager had continuously harassed these innocent men. Comments like--- go back to their country, told not to bomb people in the terminal,” is beyond what any of us could have tolerated. These two drivers went through three levels of management and were warned to say nothing more about this. FedEx said they would “vigorously appeal” the verdict.
I'm strongly against most corporate lawsuits and I have written a few articles as to why but this lawsuit is different. We're in a time of war. Some lessons need to be amplified and with a pay back, well suited for these trying times. Whenever we go to war, some persecute the innocent American civilians, who bare the same race on the other side of the battlefield. I believe these men deserved compensation but had the war not happened, the lawsuit should have offered a smaller dollar figure. I have an Aunt who is like a mother figure to me and she is Lebanese. I'm of a a mixed race and sensitive to the realness of racism and prejudice but the war is very relevant here. The necessary message the jurors agreed upon came with a 61 million dollar price and it sends a message to Americans, "Open up your heart."
The power of slander and persecution-
It's barbaric that anyone thinks they've the right to destroy the mental health of another. I'm aware of how capable slander or others misinterpretations of ourselves, can take on a life of its own. Whether its the allowance of our personal reflection's to have compassion or a news story to tell; the FedEx manager did deliberately seek to destroy the minds and hearts of two innocent Lebanese men. That warrants discipline by our courts.
Wartime-
How many Middle Eastern people in the United states are stared at daily or hear the snickering remarks from other's? I'm a Christian and I have a fondness for the Middle Eastern people. The old and new testament is full of stories that speak of these amazing races of people. Of course, this doesn't add or take away from what the Middle Eastern people are going through here, but some put this race aside like a foreigner, whose on their land. The land is not yours alone, nor do you own it anymore than another. You hear about people in the inner-city fighting over sidewalks that they don't even own and you think, how ignorant they're. You, fighting ownership of American land, as if it belongs to just your race, is even more ignorant. These are history lesson's that should have long been learned.
Yesterday, we heard of the 50 plus beheaded people found in Iraq and we're appalled. Yet, are we horrified at the barbaric acts that come out of our mouths and shows in our eyes?
I see Middle Eastern women whose head-covering reflects their honor in modesty, and watch the culturally deprived people stare at them. Have you ever witnessed that before? Have you ever noticed the mistreatment of Middle Eastern men by others too? It's a disturbing, belittling thread that a lawsuit like this, raises our awareness and reveals our hearts. This type of lawsuit, reckons man with man deeds, as it should. The slanderous words of this manager and the three upper manager's who didn't strive for justice, well deserves accountability and cost.
What you can do?
We need to offer an extra smile to Middle Eastern people because others aren't. We need to offer a smile of acceptance to Middle Eastern people because others isolate them with their eyes and words. If we see someone staring or making comments, then you should speak out. Some think they own this country alone; offer them a correction about their ignorance! The melting pot of skin reflects shades of white and brown, where the ownership of American land belongs to all. As yourself this? How many countries in the world can you see such a diverse crowd of races walks side by side? America is an exceptional place and the Middle Eastern people deserve to know this, especially during time of war. Do your part.
To be able to read between the lines is a gift but to have this gift and be without compassion becomes a curse.
