DAILY NEWS: GEOCACHING- Adventure is in the palm of your hands
What do you get when you combine the great outdoors, Problem-Solving, treasures and a sense of adventure? Geocaching does it all. Alexandra Campbell is the genius behind creating this wheel. You will need a Map, a compass, the Internet, a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver and of course, a treasure to be found.
In May of 2000, the government lifted the limits in using the GPS signals. GPS signals were designed to track troops and missiles. There are over 24 satellites and the GPS receiver only needs three signals, to reveal a location through triangulation.
When you join this site you type in your zip, city or state and find the hints to where your quest begins. You select a "cache" and your now on your way. If and when you find the cache, you will also discover a log book to write down your name. You will feel like your the captain of a ship whose just found land because the cache was found by you. This is an ingenious and a healthy idea for everyone. People spend too much time indoors and not outside. We're either in front of the TV, playing video games or on the computer. Geocaching offers adventure, exercise and mental stimulation for everyone. The GPS technology takes you on a journey that begins in the palms of your hands.
