RebukeTheWorld's News Briefing 6/20/06:Myspace.co m lawsuit-Bill Gates-Addictions-N estle Corporation
Another wrongful corporate lawsuit comes knocking at Myspace.com doors. The suit alleges that MySpace has "absolutely no meaningful protections or security measures to protect under age users." A 14 year old is suing because the man who wrote her lied about his age. He was actually a year younger. He was 19 years old and apparently also said he was a senior on a high-school football team. I'm sure that extra year of lying is going to hit the court rooms and Myspace.com will be financially liable. It's ridiculous to expect any website to check every member for truth behind their ages, where they live, their name or any personal information. Hmmm...Possible outside of reality modifications- Shall all members join by video camera, scanned ID and a full security check to make sure the ID is valid? Can they afford to do so? Isn't Myspace.com free? Myspace.com and every other online site whose purpose is unite stranger with stranger, for whatever one's motives, can do nothing more than they do now. If lawsuits such as these require corporate change, how will that impact online services? This Lawsuit can take the present free membership option, into the future impossibility option. It's not a corporate responsibility to make sure others don't lie, that choice belongs to the sole individual. Can we please, one day in the future, play the blame game with the actual person whose at fault? Can we please, one day in the future, stop looking for the American dollar for personal gain at the expense of the blameless? Again, this lawsuit points the finger the wrong way, as most corporate lawsuits do.
Bill Gates leaving Microsoft
Bill Gates leaving Microsoft will be nothing more than a pebble being thrown in still waters. As long as Microsoft continues to create excellent products, people could care less if Bill Gates is behind the wheel. This generation is getting past the name game and just want a good product and at the cheapest possible price.
Oregon lottery counseling
Oregon Lottery is now putting up stickers with toll-free numbers so gambling addicts have a someone to call; in case they think they need help. It's like the cigarette companies offering a way out for addicts even though they're the supplier. Anyone struggle with that? It's like the drug sellers on the streets are now offering free counseling, so to cover-up of their financial gain. Don't get me wrong, it's not the cigarette companies fault that people are addicts. It's not the fault of any casino or the lottery seller that people are gambling addicts. It's not the the fault of the companies that make alcohol that people are alcoholics. Yet, for the supplier to join the noble path of cure-all pursuits and yet also be the supplier, just turns my stomach a bit. Isn't that a conflict of interests? (smile)
Nestle buys Jenny Craig
The Nestle corporation is buying the Jenny Craig weight loss program for 600 million dolares. What does the future hold now? Will chocolate become low fat? Will the Jenny Craig program become high-fat? Can such a joint venture exists on opposite ends of the totem poles and we're supposed to believe it? Chocolate lovers beware, its either your chocolate loss or your loosing weight.
