The selling of body parts is on the rise again in the African districts of Malawi.(Blantyre, lilongwe, Ntchsi, Chiradzulu) These human body parts are used as charms that they believe will bring business to their districts. The body part business will continue on because their ritual practices are still held in high regard by them.
Home Affairs Minister, Anne Kachikho told parliament about the three middle men in the human body parts business that were recently apprehended by the police. ( Leonard Ganizani, Felix Maganga, Jackson Chisepo). A few years ago in 2001, a skin-smuggling ring was caught and 13 people were charged with murder. Three more cases were in Ileje and Mbozi, near the Zambian border.
Today in Malawi, body parts are used in ritual practices. They believe this will protect them from evil spirits, enrich harvesting, and bring them more business. The price of human skin can go for over $9,000. These human parts are delivered to the people who live in Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Human genital's is very expensive and also in high demand.
Some history of Malawi- One of the African districts involved in the human parts business
The Chewa established their first kingdom around 1480, then spread to northern Zambia and central Malawi. The Chewa have maintained their ancestral beliefs and customs. They're very committed to keeping their old ways and to dance of the evil spirits that stand in their way. It is believed that this is one of the reasons for their secret societies called the nyay. These secret societies have a distinct purpose directed at the outside world. Some specific examples: White women are called Dona, where the Malawi women imitate white women in dance. They even have rituals for Elvis Presley, Charlie Chaplin, Virgin Mary, and the devil from Christian theology.
They believe in one God, Chiuta of Chaunta. Men are believed to control the spiritual realm of death and women control life and regeneration. They believe that through their masks and dance, they can come into contact with the living spirits. These continual beliefs fuels the market for human remains, like gold is to the modern world. The value of money and power in Tanzania comes at the expense of human life. This is simply the same evil motives in some men but the some, live on in all nations. It's just wrapped up differently in Tanzania.
