Odds and Post Positions for the 2006 Preakness Stakes
The runaway winner of the Kentucky Derby, Barbaro, will attempt to win the second leg of the Triple Crown next Saturday, May 20st when he runs in the Preakness Stakes from Pimlico Racecourse. Barbaro virtually made his rivals eat his dust when he won the Derby by 6 1/2 lengths over Bluegrass Cat. Two of his rivals in that race who will be returning to take him on are Brother Derek and Sweernorthensaint, both Derbt disappointments. Notably absent will be the Derby 3rd placer Steppenwolfer whose connections announced he will skip the Preakness but will run the Belmont Stakes.
Will Barbaro, despite his barbaric name, be the first horse in 27 years to win all three jewels? Will this be the year we finally have another Triple Crown winner? Place a wager on it in the Bodog Sportsbook HERE. One thing is for certain, Barbaro and trainer Mike Martz will surely give their best shot.
3 more days until we can all see for ourselves if Barbaro is truly the real thing or simply a horse who got lucky in the right place at the right time almost two weeks ago. The field is official with 9 competitors all vying for the $1,000,000 prize, none harder than the namesake for Conan the Barbarian who is sitting at an overwhelming 1-1 odds. Brother Derek is the Regisuzuki’s favorite at 3/1, is he worth it? He is, after all a superb horse before that monumental Derby collapse. Sweetnorthernsaint 4/1 may be the best place to put your money, or at least some handicappers would have you believe that.
So cook up some Crab Cakes and drink up the Black Eyed Susans, it’s going to be a VERY exciting 2 minutes! To place a win wager on this race click HERE. More than 100,000 fans are expected to turn out this week at Pimlico for the $1 million Preakness Stakes, and a big part of any horse race is being able to see the horses up close before the race.
