Video clips from play...
Here's the deal, we forgot the video camera at home. I was so rushed and worried about getting there early and doing Gabby's make-up and all the camcorder got left at home. All I had was my digital camera so I attempted to record what I could using it. The results aren't great...it's grainy and hard to hear but you will get the idea.
A friend taped the whole thing with their camcorder and has promised us a copy...hopefully we will get that. Gabby's grade (6th) has the first two scenes...as I mentioned before each grade (6,7 & 8) all had the same cast of characters only different actors and did two scenes each. It was a really neat idea for the teacher to do that. I do have to say...I think the 6th graders did the best job. The older kids didn't seem as into it as the younger ones. I'm only posting the scenes Gabby was in and the final bow at the end...maybe I will post the others later for comparison, but for now...here is the STAR of the show. lol

Wizard of OZ (opening scene)
Someone mentioned not seeing the lion in the photos...the pictures I was able to get were just before the play started. There was so much chaos and running around I was only able to grab a couple of kids for photos. I didn't stress about it cause I figured when they play was over I would get them all. WRONG! The curtain closed andwhen the kids came backout they were all out of costume! I guess it was the school's way of making sure nobody went home with one. I was bummed but at least I got a few shots.
The costumes were made by student helpers and some teachers. I went in one day to volunteer my help and was supposed to get to work on the costumes but the teacher that had them all was a no show. :( The play was VERY low budget...we heard thru the grapevine whatever we parents didn't provide, donate or loan the teacher paid for out of pocket. That ended up being a lot out of her pocket. We live in a relatively POOR district so funds for extra things like this are almost non-existent. I thought they did a fabulous job with what they had. Gabby's Dorothy dress was made from a plastic table cloth and the ruby slippers were worn by ALL three Dorothy's....they had to kick them off real fast for the next Dorothy! And all three of them complained that there were too small. Ahhhh the price you'll pay to look good.

It was really very well done. The teacher(s) involved desire a hearty "Well Done!" It's sad that school districts don't have the money for such things. The kids certainly deserve some "fun" things along with the three "R's" Linda in WA http://journals.aol.com/lsfp1
