First there were twelve ... then there were ten … then just six.. and then the three finalists. It was the finale of the magnificent Maxim magazine covergirl model contest for 2006, and after run-off contests in cities across America, it all came down to the big event at the Palms resort's Rain nightclub. And I was one of the luckiest guys in the room, because I was up-close and personal, on stage with the beautiful lineup of lovelies as a star judge. The decision was not just about bodacious bodies, pulsing pulchritude, long legs and sizzling smiles. We wanted to check out poise and personality as well. After an hour of provocative poses, game challenges and audience votes it came down to a head to head contest between hometown Vegas beauty Mary Brooks and 21-year-old Elly Mercado (above/right) from Dallas. You could hear hearts beating as computer experts tallied the crucial points – and then, in the closest of hair-splitting results, the University of North Texas student won.
Even the private opulent highrollers' pool at The Venetian will "go European," and be managed by TAO nightclub, which will use it for under-the-stars parties. Don't be at all surprised to see Hollywood brat-packers and pretty party people wading in, clothes, polka dot bikinis, and all. Pamela Anderson didn’t think twice about splashing in the TAO dance floor bathtub! So give them a topless pool and magic, mischief and mayhem is bound to follow!
Caesars is also set to bring another of the world's best French chefs here. The legendary Guy Savoy will hold court on the 2nd floor of its new Augustus tower with his long-awaited first US restaurant, and over the weekend he was here interviewing and recruiting his service team. Guy, who has been voted Chef of the Year by all the other chefs of France, also received the Legion of Honor in 2000 -- the country’s highest award. Only 75 lucky people will be seated to enjoy his superb cuisine, exquisite service and remarkable wines nightly. "The opportunity to create a new restaurant in Caesars Palace is just too intoxicating," says Savoy. Caesar’s President Gary Selesner told me "Chefs of this caliber are rare international treasures." Indeed, Guy's restaurant in Paris has been consistently ranked amongst the Top 5 in the world for the past 10 years. Although several key kitchen chefs will relocate from Paris to live full time in Vegas, Guy has already recruited several Vegas award winning restaurant chefs and has been training them in Paris for the past five months.
But at PURE tonight (Tues. March 21), 'Sopranos' star Jamie Lynn Sigler (back in Vegas for at least her third time in recent weeks -- here she is with co-star Robert Iler at TAO) will host a party to celebrate the new season of her hit HBO series, promising to team with DJ Sky Nellor in the DJ booth for a spin on the turntables...
Other VIPS and celebs were all over Vegas this past weekend. Ex-Creed frontman Scott Stapp was at the Hard Rock, where comedy heavyweight Jeff Beacher also wrapped his final winter Beachers Madhouse on Sunday. New summer shows will resume in June -- but if you can't stand being away from his unique insanity, join his party bar that's opening on the Strip at the Imperial Palace next month... Oscar winning actor Anthony Hopkins enjoyed my favorite 'Rich and Famous' pizza of smoked salmon and caviar while celebrating his wife’s birthday at Spago in Caesars Palace (See our AOL Vegas Video with starchef Wolfgang Puck making this special treat at the restaurant)... Grammy award winning hiphop violinist, Miri Ben-Ari (left) entertained a staggering 3000 night revelers at TAO, including New England Patriots star Tom Brady, who gathered friends to turn the VIP dance floor into his personal playing field...

Maxim Meets Maximus: Seductive Lovelies and Luxurious Suites
First there were twelve ... then there were ten … then just six.. and then the three finalists. Elly is putting herself through TV, Radio and Film classes by working as a part-time lingerie sales clerk at Victoria's Secret -- and now she’s hoping her first major model win will not only put her on the Maxim cover, but also turn her into an actual Victoria's Secret angel. If it does, please remember who picked her and where it all began!
FYI, these eyes also spied supermodel Tyra Banks on her very first day in New York from Detroit, so it wouldn't be my first model discovery! Congrats Elly -- this certainly will be the start of something big...
The following "What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas" moment certainly won't -- it’ll be headlines all over America, and shine our spotlights of hedonism and decadence even more: Our resort hotel swim pools are going topless this coming sunny season. (They don’t actually use the word "topless," but the slightly more tasteful "European bathing," in a nod to the nude beaches of the French Riviera). What began last year as an experiment at Mandalay Bay's Moorea Beach Club will roll out across the city in a sea of silicone splendor. George Maloof opens his brand new SKIN pool complex at his redecorated and redesigned Palms hotel on April 28, and two days later on April 30, Peter Morton's rival Hard Rock opens the new-look peek-a-boo(b) Rehab. Hooters opened its Nippers pool – direct from the Bahamas -- to tie in with March Madness this past weekend, with the 3-day official opening celebration shindig starting March 31. They've got two heated pools plus two hot tubs one for 60 best friends, and the other for just 12 intimate couplings!
Summer is heating up, and it's not just about imported beach sand and fake-believe wave pools. Caesars Palace will resume its new series of outdoor concerts as a regular summertime attraction. First up is Peter Frampton on April 22, then Jon Secada on May 6. The concerts will be in a 3000 seat configuration in the Roman Plaza amphitheater that's right on the Strip, alongside the fountains in front of the casino's main entrance. There are also good-sourced rumors that Bette Midler has signed with Caesars to perform, but no official word yet. Watch this space...
But I'm even more excited about our first-ever tour of the Pool Villa and Forum penthouse presidential palaces at Caesars (see our carousel of pics above), which this week get the once over on TV's 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy' series, to showcase the ultimate in opulent hotel furnishings. Until now, this rarified world has been only seen by the very Few and the very Privileged, including basketball legend Michael Jordan, movie star couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and superstar singer Celine Dion and manager/husband Rene Angelil. But Caesars corporate honchos let Luxe Life in for a private peek at the unlimited luxury ... and having toured all four corners of the world, I can safely say these rank right up at the very top!
Nestled above the more than 3300 hotel rooms at Caesars Palace are the Pool Villa and the Forum Penthouse suites, decadent spaces that can be used as two or four separate suites, or even combine into nearly 45,000 square feet. There are a total 14 bedrooms (at night, the suite's butlers rub down the sheets with white-gloved hands in order to warm them), eight bathrooms (with heated floors and toilet seats!) and out-of-this-world amenities including a private cigar lounge, billiards room, full fitness and exercise rooms, indoor and outdoor pools and Jacuzzis, sauna, a hairdressing salon complete with massage chair and salon basin, a virtual driving range, and of course, 24-hour VIP butler service (pictured above at the golf simulator is one of them, Mr. Valentine Crespo). State of the art audio and visual equipment is found virtually everywhere, including a laser Karaoke machine in one suite. The Emperor's Bed in the Artemis Pool Villa suite Master bedroom is believed to be the world's biggest (at8'by8'). and Everywhere the eye looks are gilded details layered against elaborate mouldings and ornate architectural features. Only the finest rugs, furniture and finishings have been used to create what one would expect, luxury to indeed befit a Palace of Princely Platinum Pleasures.
Caesars is also home to the amazing PURE nightclub, named #1 in the country on E! Entertainment Television. DJ AM (a/k/a Adam Goldstein) is the regular music maestro here, and chose the venue this weekend to prove that his on-again-off-again relationship with Nicole Ritchie ('The Simple Life') was back on (they were engaged in February last year and broke it off in December), as they partied together. Whether wedding plans will resume is unclear. On St. Patrick's Day there, you could've gotten lucky with playmates Cristal Camden, Audra Lynn and Tailor James. And Grammy-award winning group Train also played there for a private party of SONY executives in for ShoWest last week with a one-hour concert of fan favorites. Lead vocalist Pat Monahan and band members Jimmy Stafford, Scott Underwood, Brandon Bush and Johnny Colt raced right off afterwards for 4 consecutive sold-out shows at the Filmore in San Francisco; They return to Vegas Thursday, March 30 for a public show at Rain in the Palms...

Incidentally, if Caesars chief honcho Gary Loveman sees a personal dream come true, he'll have a Caesars Palace in Singapore. He's just recruited Academy Award-winning 'Titanic' director James Cameron to mastermind a 1 million sq.ft, five-level, 16-story tall IPort, a high-tech interactive entertainment based on Hollywood action movies and themed attractions. If Loveman wins the bidding against MGM Mirage and The Venetian, he wants it as the centerpiece of the island-nation's Caesar's Singapore casino complex. I couldn't get his local executives to confirm or deny that if IPort is an astounding Asian success, a similar fortress of fun might be launched here later on ... but they did smile as I asked!
