'Mystere,' More Sexy Girls and 'Queer Eye' Straightens Out Vegas

Its hard to believe that Cirque Du Soleil’s first show in Vegas, Mystere,  is still going strong after 13 years with sell out performances and three months of advance bookings!  The cast excitedly looks forward to its 6000th show in August! Now that’s an incredible record-breaking achievement! Could it be that its success has something to do with a can of soda-pop? I’ll answer that intriguing question a little further on.

It was hotel mogul Steve Wynn who initiated the first partnership in Vegas with Guy Laliberte and the Mirage hotel in 1992 – and it became the first Cirque show to have its own permanent theater built exactly to the show’s specifics at Treasure Island -- including 1629 seats, 78 speakers and computers for 800 different light cues for the 18 different set changes. The show uses enough power each performance to provide electricity for 600 homes. In the wardrobe department there are 10,000 pieces with 500 of them being washed in the 35 daily loads of laundry plus 1500 pairs of shoes. Among the VIPs and celebrities who have been seen Mystere and met the cast backstage are President Bill Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea,  Demi, Ashton, Bruce Willis and their daughters, Robin Williams, Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon, Ricky Martin, Nicholas Cage, 50 Cent, Usher, Beyonce and Jay Z.

Our AOL Vegas video team filmed all the pre-show activity and rehearsals before a recent curtain-up- and you’ll get to see the fascinating segment right here on Luxe Life Video next month.

Oh, That Can of Coke?

Everyday a can of soda gets added to the water to mop the stage -- so that the sticky helps provide a better grip for the athletes and gymnasts. They don’t want to be slipping and a-sliding on the revolving stage when they are spinning up to 40 feet above the stage or speeding at 30mph with repetitive somersaults on a extra-long trampoline.

You can book tickets for Mystere right here on AOL Vegas so don’t miss out on the extraordinary, exciting epic.

The Fast Life

Now to a brand new show that opens tonight and already knows it won’t reach 1-year let alone 13 years at its theater home in the Stardust  -- that’s because the resort-hotel will be imploded at New Years for a $6-billion mega-makeover of luxury. Meantime though, Headlights and Tailpipes will rev up the night thru Dec 31 with its auto-erotica adult revue. Experts are already predicting that stunning model/dancer Kymberly Clifton (pictured) who has been appearing in Bite at the Stratosphere and now stars in this show will win raves and jump from this big show business break to Hollywood stardom. She ‘s dancing with two Playboy Playmates Lauren Anderson and Barbara Moore in a celebration of fast cars, faster motorcycles and even faster women! Even though the unveiled 2007 Shelby Cobra and other wild custom cars will draw audience eyes we’re betting they’ll be open wider for the gorgeous girls. Veteran Vegas producer-director Jeff Kutash hopes his power-production will continue in another Strip theater when the Stardust imploded! We’ll have a report on the opening week festivities for Headlights next week in Luxe Life.

Queer Eyes

Meantime, the cast of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy have been partying all over town while on a 3-week filming of new shows here.  Jai Rodriguez was so “blown away” by the Franco Dragone Le Reve show he watched at Wynn that he called his colleague, fashion savant Carson Kressley to see the show with him- a second time on the same night! “Watching two back to back performances proved I loved it so much. I am going to get all my friends here to see it.” he told the cast backstage.  Then Jai also hit the Krave nightclub at the Aladdin with Thom Filicia for another two consecutive nights -- first to film Krave’s diva Larry “Hot Chocolate“ Edwards (pictured) giving a tour of the unique nightspot and dancing with the stars. Jai returned with cast mates Ted Allen and Carson Kressley to watch the avant-garde erotic Fashionistas musical. The boys also unveiled a showing of artist Joni Max’s unique paintings – including her famous Screaming Woman -- on display at ghostbar in the Palms hotel which will be seen as part of the 3 Vegas episodes on Bravo.

Blue Men of Summer

More than 20 players, coaches and members of the Los Angeles Dodgers attended a late night performance of the Blue Man Group at the Venetian. They’d stopped their plane long enough at Vegas’ McCarran Airport while en route for a game in Seattle to see the show -- all because the Dodger’s Channel 9 TV station in LA hired the blue-masked- men for commercials to promote the teams’ summer baseball games!

Flavor Time

As he promised in last week’s Luxe Life journal, rapper Flavor Flav has begun exploring our nightlife as Vegas’ newest resident.  He was spotted at the celebrity studded Stack restaurant in the Mirage -- complete with trademark bling bling. His trademark giant clock that hangs around his neck didn’t interfere with his eating or drinking.  He greeted basketball legend Michael Jordan who was in the restaurant for the fourth consecutive night. His Airness “punked” the friendly waitress telling her he hadn’t ordered the sea bass that he actually wound up eating. Eventually he confessed! After another visit to Caramel ultralounge and Light nightclub at the Bellagio he must have finally returned home after a pleasure packed week’s visit because people have stopped seeing him around town! But his partying position has immediately been claimed by Sting who turned up at Pure in Caesars Palace with a hoard of Hooters Calendar Girls for a latenight champagne celebration. Sting, who is partnering with Forty Deuce owner Ivan Kane to open branches of the LA and Vegas burlesque club in New York and London, will return again to Forty Deuce at Mandalay Bay when he plays the hotel on April 29 as special guest at Tiger Woods’ annual fundraiser jam.

Vegas Star Parade

The celebs keep on a-coming: Hustle and Flow star Taryn Manning andher friend and co-designer Tara Jane (pictured dined at the Bellagio’s Fix restaurant before throwing a party in the Light nightclub to launch theirnew Born Uniqorn fashion line of daring-girl taste of trouble clothes. Founding Beach Boy, Al Jardine played the Cannery Hotel Casino with his Endless Summer Band and Dave Kushner from Velvet Revolver and Scott Shriner from Weezer turned up for the 4th annual Mad About Mopars event.

Up to Code

I cannot let today’s journal pass without a tip of my pen to good gossip guy about town, Norm Clarke of the Review Journal who reported that despite offering to pay $20,000 for 20 magnums of expensive Cristal champagne, rappers Lil’ Flip and Chamillionaire were refused entry to the OPM nightspot for not rising to the dress-code standards set.

Norm also revealed that the staff of Michael’s restaurant in the Barbary Coast had to turn down a high-rollers request to just eat their famous Cherries Jubilee desert for a $5000 fee.“ Its all of dinner or nothing” sniffed the maitre'd.” We just don’t serve a salad and call that a meal. Dessert comes with the full dinner.” Only in Vegas, folks.

Meantime we’ll be back here in the same place at the same time tomorrow with an intimate advance peak at the brand new super luxurious Red Rock resort casino  opening April 18  and  stunning international adult film star Sunset Thomas launches  X-rated poker from her new Vegas home.

Tonight's Tips: Tuesday, April 4

Two intriguing events clash tonight to compete for your attention: the gorgeous girls of Howie Mandel’s new TV big money show Deal or No Deal will host at Pure in Caesars Palace. (Come on down to meet Claudia Jordan, April Scott and Aubrie Lemon -- but if you miss them you can find them tomorrow night at the Tangerine nightclub in Treasure Island)  Simultaneously there’ll be even more bodacious bodies on display at ghostbar in the Palms as celebrity painter Nick SanPedro demonstrates live body painting as part of his art exhibit.
