Holiday Helpers: X-Girl Bunny, Big Ticket Sequels and Hawaiian 10-Ohs

Before anything else, greetings for a wonderful Easter weekend and good wishes for a perfect Passover. The holidays for both faiths that coincide are the perfect excuse for me to invite the gorgeous ladies of X-Girls (pictured) to don the briefest of bunny outfits to send best wishes to all Luxe Life readers.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming! There’s a triple whammy to celebrate because it's now all official. Three gigantic events have just been renewed for return visits to Vegas:

Laughers Rejoice
The Comedy Festival is set for its 2nd year at
Caesars Palace and other Harrah’s resorts from November 14-18. AOL was one of the sponsors last year. (See Luxe Life back on November 21 for our photo-report then with an all-star turnout including Jerry Seinfeld, George Lopez, and Dave Chappelle.) The extraordinarily successful festival which is a partnership between HBO and the AEG will air on TBS.

Runner, Runner
The 2nd Annual Las Vegas Marathon has been set for the December 8-10 weekend -- with the famed Strip closed to traffic that Sunday morning for the anticipated 20,000+ runners. (Again click back to Luxe Life on
December 12 for the photo report of the first marathon.) We’ll announce all the details officially at a press conference on May 9 and although I know the name of the man who’ll fire the starters pistol, I’ve been sworn to secrecy about it 'til then!.

Tiara Time
Two former Miss America pageant participants -- and both Vegas residents -- have just been named to the pageant's board of directors: former Miss New Jersey 1971 Lynn Weidner (married to Bill Weidner, president of
The Venetian’s parent company, Las Vegas Sands) and former Miss Oregon 1989 Lynette Boggs McDonald (a county commissioner and a director of the Keep Memory Alive ). Congratulations! And expect the any-minute-now announcement that Miss America (which won record ratings on the CMT cable outlet with its debut in Vegas) will be back on the Strip again this winter. Final logistics are being finalized right now as I peck away at this keyboard. (See Luxe Life back on January 20-23 for the photo report of Miss America’s first year here in the desert after more than 50 years in Atlantic City.)

Hawaiian Ten-Oh!
It’s a beauty pageant of another kind that invades this weekend when the gorgeous blondes and brunettes of the 23rd Miss Hawaiian Tropic international finals come to town. It all starts tonight around the pool at
Treasure Island and the preliminary contest tomorrow (Saturday, April 15) night. It all culminates on Monday (April 17) with the final judging and voting in the Mystere Theatre and filmed for later television broadcast.

My friend Ron Rice (Hawaiian Tropic’s founder) tells me that another friend, actor Lorenzo Lamas, will preside over the Carnivale themed event with reigning Queen, Charmain Espinosa from Panama in front of the cameras one last time to host the festivities. The bikini beauties have a jam-packed schedule of photo shoots, extravagant parties plus the sweat-filled rehearsals. Luxe Life will be there every stepof the way at one of the largest beauty pageants in the world. Thousands of contestants have participated regionally all year long across the globe with winners moving on from regional and national events before finally representing their home country here in Vegas. Another judge this year is my pal, famous Hawaiian artist and world class windsurfer Christian Riese Lassen. He will make a rare appearance at his Lassen Gallery in the
Forum Shops of Caesars tonight at 8PM to unveil his newest creation, "The Illumination Suite" -- three paintings in showing the path to enter Heaven.

Jerry's Back
Even though he’s 80 and has battled chronic back pain and massive weight gains from the prescription drugs, Jerry Lewis, our favorite Vegas resident is still going strong -- and stronger now that he’s shed over 100 pounds of the excess. He’s just landed a role as the homeless uncle of fellow comic Richard Belzer’s detective John Munch on Law and Order to air this fall. Jerry's character is arrested while living on the streets as a suspect in a murder. It was back in 1983 that Jerry took his last dramatic role as a kidnapped talk show host in Robert de Niro’s King of Comedy movie. By way of one good deed deserves another, Belzer will lead the NY Friars Club celebrity roast of Jerry on June 9.

Born To Be Wild
This week, "The Drive" opened on 11 acres near the
Sahara Hotel and overnight, it's become the city’s busiest tourist attraction. Talk about life in the fast lane. General Motors operates the high performance test track where Vegas visitors (and residents alike) can gun up to 15 different GM vehicles including new model Corvettes and H3s in the ultimate pedal to the metal challenge. (Out-of-towners pay just $10 for two loops but locals are free-- so that’s "exxxtra special" as The Church Lady would say!) Call this autotainment. A 2nd track serves as an off-road trail so drivers can test out full size SUVs.

Robin's Royal Rundown
Vroom! Our world party HQs keeps its reputation intact with Angela Chittenden hosting the Beach Bunny swimwear bikini party at
Light on Sunday night, followed Monday by a celebration at sister JET nightclub to launch The Godfather video game release. But now, for the rest of the weekend highlights in Robin’s Royal Rundown:

  • My favorite impressionist Rich Little -- YES I’ll admit he does a perfect me -- laughs it up through Sunday night at The Orleans. Expect brand new Dick Cheney hunting jokes amongst his 200+ dead-on voices.
  • My favorite all-time rock group, The Original Comets, a Salute to Bill Haley, shakes, rattles and rolls Saturday at the Rampart Casino
  • .38 Special pulls the trigger at the Silverton
  • My favorite satirical comedy commentator, Dennis Miller, plays the MGM through Monday night
  • It's all laughs as Kathy Griffin (who just worked with me on VH1’s Fame Game series for the fall) yuks it up at The Suncoast through Sunday night
  • Brad Garrett does another weekend gig through tomorrow night at The Mirage.
  • My favorite yesteryear popstar, Lesley Gore, (pictured) sings all the '60s and '70s hits at The Cannery tonight
  • Latin America’s favorite superstar Luis Miguel (vocals in English and Spanish) at the Mandalay Bay on Saturday
  • Country’s LeAnn Rimes charms at the Star of the Desert Arena.

We’ll be back on Monday with Part 1 of our Hawaiian Tropic beauty pageant coverage featuring photos of as many of the gorgeous girls as possible – and then Tuesday we’ll have the ultimate winner. Also Monday, more secrets and scoops as rehearsals get underway for Cirque du Soleil's new Beatles-themed musical spectacular coming this summer to the
    Mirage.
