How do you celebrate your first birthday? Well if you’re 944
Magazine, you take over the Palms resort hotel for the Independence Day holiday
weekend and throw the largest and longest star-studded party Vegas has ever
seen. Bringing new definition to Vegas as the world’s party headquarters this
event is a mind-boggling 84-hour–plus marathon of mirth, madness and merriment.
Here’s the full Luxe Life rundown with plenty of advance
warnings so you don’t miss out on any of it.
Tomorrow, Shaquille O’Neal, fresh from the Miami Heat’s NBA victory, will be honored with a Walk of Fame star at the Brenden Theaters in the Palms just before the IMAX 3D world premiere screening of ‘Superman Returns.’ Invitations have gone out to the stars Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, Parker Posey and new Superman Brandon Routh (here just 2 weeks ago for Cinevegas) will be there. The red-carpet event starts at 5PM.

Speaking of Superman, as part of the festivities, the new Fantasy Tower at the Palms takes on a new look at nights starting as it becomes the largest billboard anywhere in the world. The image of Superman will soar in 3-D measuring 175ft. tall by 75ft. wide on the facade from 8.30PM to 12.30AM through Saturday night. The Man of Steel's image will be superimposed by the most powerful projectgor inm the world as part of the IMAX noted movie premiere of 'Superman Returns.' Dean Cain who played Clark Kent/Superman in the 1993 TV series 'The New Adventures of Superman' will receive his Walk of Fame star at the Brenden Theatres tomorrow at 4PM alongside the recent installations of Sylvestor Stalllone, Nicholas Cage and Dennis Hopper from Cinevegas two weeks ago. Dean, who now appears in the 'Las Vegas' TV series as casino owner Casey Manning will join with theatre owner Johnny Brenden at 3PM tomorrow to present a check to the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Summer Kids camp.
Also Friday, with such celebrity guests as Jessica Simpson, Lindsay Lohan, Carmen Electra, Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Woody Harrelson and Paris & Nicky Hilton on hand. The after party begins at 11PM in ghostbar. However, from 8PM thru the wee hours on both Friday and Saturday nights, a whole rabble of rockers are taking over the Palms Lounge, which has been converted into a rock ‘n’ roll haven for eight groups over two days including Morningwood, Whitestarr, Better Spaceship, Red Light School District, Feed the Kitty and more weird off-the-wall names I can’t list.
Don’t even bother going to sleep because Saturday gets underway at 10AM with the launch of the nation ‘s ultimate daylong pool party. DJs will provide the musical backdrop for a stunning swimsuit models fashion show accompanied by more than 20 go-go dancers around George Maloof’s new $40-million Palms Pool. At 8PM, Scott Weiland, Matt Sorum, Dave Navarro and Donovan Leitch throw a Camp Freddy concert along with the Panic Channel with former members of Jane’s Addiction. I’m reliably told that Camp Freddy’s surprise musical star will be Carlos Santana!
Although a massive fireworks display is set for a 10PM blastoff, don’t expect these rockers to wrap before midnight -- when the official VIP party gets underway at the Rain nightclub with Mayor Oscar Goodman making it the official “944 Day” – and members of the Blue Man Group giving a special very late-night performance. Expect to see members of Maroon 5 around the hotel, as they have been currently recording their new album at the Studios at The Palms. Also expect this never—ending night to rock past dawn into its 4thday of revelry. Remember DJ Robert Oleysyck should break the Guinness World Record with his DJ set of 84+ hours at 10PM under the main marquee of the Palms -and if his stamina can take it he’ll play on until he collapses fast asleep -- which is what most of the 10,000 expected partygoers will do, too. Hopefully they’ll be awake and up for the actual July 4 celebrations on Tuesday!
LIGHTS LOFT LIVING
No sooner has the Light nightclub celebrated its 4th anniversary with its Jet, Fix and Stack club and restaurant siblings than owner Andrew Sasson will announce today, he’s going further into the ever-growing luxury Vegas real-estate market. He’s developing a new, totally unique Spa Lofts concept -- “a 4-story, 3-building, 147-unit series of luxury lofts on 5+ acres where the I-215 meets Rainbow.” Groundbreaking will be in March but Luxe Life has the first exclusive design photos as sales will get underway this Saturday.
It’s a unique concept with the property built around a 5,000 sq. ft. spa facility complete with health club, gym and two Olympic-sized pools. The lavish spa will offer every imaginable hedonistic delight known to man and woman. Andrew told Luxe Life: “There’s a gap in Vegas real estate for people who don’t want to live in single-family homes but who also can’t afford high-rise condos. Spa Lofts bridges the gap with modern contemporary living at affordable prices”. They run from $450,000 to $600,000. Andrew’s first real-estate venture was the Panorama Towers condo complex, which he sold to partner Laurence Hallier in order to develop Spa Lofts.
DRAG QUEEN DECADENCE
Everybody from Prince Albert of Monaco to Dr. Ruth herself have been to the outrageously funny Lucky Cheng’s cabaret club in Manhattan -- I even escorted Ivana Trump there when she celebrated a unique birthday bash. Now after 12 hit years there, the mesh-stocking and stiletto drag queens have opened a raucous branch right on the Strip opposite the Stardust and alongside the Riviera.

Madonna was one of the first celebrity customers to sneak in on the female impersonators during her recent concert stop here. Lenny Kravitz and Alanis Morisette are also fans of the club, which has been regularly featured on Jerry Springer’s TV show and where he held his book launch party! The rhinestones blind, the mascara magnifies, the lipstick is ruby red, the gowns are from Chanel and can you tell the boys from the girls? It is outrageous and the drag-dine institution is no “family” restaurant with balloons blown up as outrageous sexual objects. If you ask for the “drag box” you’ll likely get a risqué lap-dance from a post-op talented entertainer waiter-waitress! The seven-day-a-week, red-sparkling lacquered candlelit pan-Asian cuisine club complete with stripper-pole has a rotating staff of eight host/hostess drag queens vying for attention.
Larry Edwards as Tina Turner hosts every Monday’s karaoke night and Ginger Grant and Nia Simone are on hand for the three-hour continuous weekend shows which are really heavy on the Village People and Gloria Gaynor music. The food is delicious pan-Asian and the drinks are a daredevil’s delight.
Incidentally, Larry who appeared in ‘Miss Congeniality 2,’ was on the Vegas float with a Liberace impersonator and dancers from ‘Jubilee,’ ‘La Femme’ and the go-go boys of Krave at the Gay Pride Parade this weekend in New York. Tourist officials tell me that Vegas is the 2nd most popular gay destination after Key West, Florida and they aggressively promote Vegas attractions to that demographic market. Looks like Lucky Cheng’s will be the #1 stop on their hit list!
HOLY HOOTERS!
Another first for Vegas! To celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary, Paul and Audrey Ribarich rode their Harley bikes over from Arizona to become the first Hooters fans to renew their vows at the “Joy of Keno and Wedding Chapel Wall” outside the sports book at the new Hooters Hotel Casino here. Ten of their friends also motor-biked over to witness the ceremony, performed by Pastor Punchy Pete -- a Harley rider himself -- and four Hooters girls as bridesmaids!
The reception took place at Porch Dogs where the bride and groom, in classic Hooters style, treated the guests to three different kinds of spicy chicken wings. I am also pleased to report (with tongue firmly planted in my cheek) the Hooters girls kept on their orange shorts for the occasion, but the bride and groom slipped into a traditional tuxedo and a Victorian gown for the nifty nuptials.
STRIP SCRIBBLES
Former X-rated movie bombshell Sunset Thomas (pictured above left) joins 'X Girls' at the Aladdin on Sunday thru July 9 as a guest star with her own musical dance numbers. The new Vegas resident, currently appearing on HBO, will also appear in a new comedy scene with all the glamour X-Girls and then head down to South America for a 10-day tour with the Xciting Xotic troupe. … A midnight musical “Shag with a Twist” (pictured above right) is set to open at Krave in the Aladdin as of July 13. It will run Sundays thru Thursdays and begins with a party each night at 12PM, which morphs into the camp, retro, cool musical that brings to life the hip art work of artist Shag with its outlandish characters and vividly-colored costumes. … It’s way off in the future, but diary it now, the 2nd annual comedy festival returns to Caesars Palace Nov. 14-18 and it’ll exceed the first one held last year which was a humongous humor-fest.

Every Thursday now at Casa Fuenta,our town’s top cigar and cocktail bar in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, presents En Fuego, a modern slice of Havana with Cuban drinks and Cuban music to kickoff party weekends. The fabulously sexy girls from 'Fantasy' at the Luxor discovered it first and have been recommending it to dancers up and down the Strip. … Then those gorgeous sexy French topless beauties from ‘La Femme’ at MGM will be making a special appearance at the Light club in The Bellagio after 10:30PM.
