In advance of tonight's pre-season NBA game between archrivals, the LA Lakers and the Sacramento Kings, were partying hearty in Vegas, and it's just a glimpse at the excitement expected during All-Star weekend, to be held here February 15-19.
Luxe Life joined superstars Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom poolside at the Mirage last night for the Lakers festivities, and then we were over at the Palms for Kings' stars Mike Bibby and Ron Artest. The two teams play tonight at the Thomas & Mack Center with a 7PM tip-off.

The Lakers had spent yesterday, from 10AM onwards, in various events to raise funds for their Youth Foundation. Penny Marshall, Shannon Elizabeth and actress Andrea Brown from 'Desperate Housewives' were just 3 of the celebs taking part in the golf and poker tournaments. The sexy Lakers girls and Paris Hilton's parents, Rick and Kathy were also on hand. Additional monies were raised from both the silent and live auctions during the Mirage pool dinner.
It's the first year that the Lakers have hosted their invitational in Vegas, and in their debut game on Sunday they lost to the Phoenix Suns although, in fairness, we must point out that Kobe, still recovering froma knee injury, did not suit up forthe game. He promises he'll be back for the first regular season game, when the team will face the Suns again. The Lakers party continued on at the chic JET nightclub until the wee-hours this morning, so if play is a little sluggish this evening you'll know why!!!

The Lakers during their Sunday night game against the Phoenix Suns.
The party, in one of the $25,000-a-night, two-storey Sky Villa's in the new Fantasy Tower at the Palms, was to celebrate the brand new Carl's burger TV commercial, which debuted shortly after 9PM on NBC. It stars the four Maloof brothers, who make up the billion dollar empire of the Palms Hotel (brother George), the Sacramento Kings (brothers Gavin and Joe) and Maloof Music and Movies (brother Phil). High-rollers, the Kings cuties and members of the team all got Carl's burgers and milk shakes for the unveiling!
Joe Maloof told me: "It took us 10-hours to film the spot back in August, and we went through 511 hamburgers before it was finished. It was so much fun, and we did it without being paid. When we bought the Kings franchise we lived in a tiny, 1,100 square foot apartment, and each night we'd eat dinner across the street at Carl's. It kept us alive for the first 5 months. We love them so much we ate them every night."

Andrew Puzder, President of Carl's said, "I met Joe and Gavin at a Kings game, hit it off and we were both telling each other we were fans of the burgers and the Kings. I figured they'd be perfect in a commercial, following on the heels of other celebrities we've featured: Paris Hilton, Mark McGuire, Dennis Rodman. They live the life every young hungry guy wants to live; they're wealthy, successful and have fun doing the mogul thing, but best of all they love the $6-burger." The new TV spot will broadcast across the USA and internationally as Carl's has 3,131 restaurants in 43 states and 13 overseas! Not bad for a company that started with a lone hot-dog cart in LA in 1941 and now employs 30,000 people worldwide!
So why didn't theMaloof's pocket a whopping 4-time celebrity fee? The CEO explained: "First, they never asked and we never offered! But think about it, the whole spot is really a 30-second spot promoting their Palms resort and I'm paying for the whole thing!!!! It's a good deal for both of us, but they really did it because they simply love our burger!" Joe added: "We do love their burgers but we also love their TV commercials. Now we're part of our own and that's a dream come true."

Marketing whiz, George Maloof even went one-step further, and now has a $6000 combo meal on the Palms room service menu. The most expensive hotel-room-service burger in the world comes complete with the signature Carl's Jr. burger, a side of French fries and a $6,000 bottle of 24-year-old Bordeaux red wine! But I'll let you in on a secret: a Palms waiter actually grabs a resort limo to race off to the nearest Carl's fast-food spot to buy the authentic bun, burger and fries before adding it all onto a silver-tray with the prestigious Petrus!

The $6,000 Carl's Jr. Combo meal, complete with a 24-year-old bottle of Chateau Petrus.
All 4 brothers will be courtside tonight and after the game its burgers for all back at the Palms with a party at the ghostbar ultra lounge!
Luxe Life will return later today with an exclusive interview with Liza Minnelli.
