When the National Basketball Association came to town, it was
all about Vegas glitz and glamour. Our pals Wayne
Newton and
Mayor Oscar Goodman pulled out all the stops with
feathered showgirls and NBA superstars Clyde
Drexler, former UNLV player Greg Anthony
and Sacramento Kings center Brad Miller,
all on hand for the festivities. Oscar showed total favoritism,
filling in the first ballot for Phoenix Suns player Shawn
Marion because he too also used to play for UNLV! Both Mayor
Oscar and Wayne said they hoped that Vegas playing host for the 56th annual All
Star Game next Presidents Weekend (Feb 16-19) would eventually win us our very
own franchise team. City and county officials are already officially analyzing
sites for a possible $400-million arena, and how casinos might defray the
annual $10-million funding loss each year. Brad commented: "The whole
All-Star week will be awesome for Vegas." Clyde added: "It
will be electric." And Greg added: "It will be the biggest
thing to ever happen in Vegas and may well be the next step in the process of
Vegas getting a team." Incidentally, Denver Nuggets forward
Carmelo Anthony is the newest athlete to become a future
Vegas resident as he's just shelled out the deposit on a $1-million, 2-bedroom,
23rd floor condo at the new W residences near the Hard
Rock Hotel. His neighbor will be Derrick
Gibson of the Oakland Raiders who is upstairs on the 38th
floor.

DANCING STARS

Movie hero Michael Douglas got Table #1 when he arrived at Ivan Kane's Forty-Deuce naughty nightspot in Mandalay Bay, and he rocked out in awe of the bodalicious burlesque dancers! He was gifted with a bag of Forty-Deuce swag souvenirs to take home for wife Catherine Zeta-Jones. ... Celebrity chef Bobby Flay spent 4-hours at PURE as did fight champion Floyd Mayweather when the Top 100 Spy on Vegas beauties had their countdown contest. ... Meantime, at TI's Social House it was celebrity chef Bradley Ogden and son Brian with Johnny Chan and Damon Wayans seated nearby for the sushi, sashimi, skewers and sake samplings! Damon also went onto Tangerine downstairs with a group of friends not calling it a night until 3:30AM. Over at Coyote Ugly, the 2006 St. Paulie Girl Brittany Evans drank lemon-drop shots after dancing atop the bar plus Vodka Red Bull as she signed autographs for fans there.
ROUNDUP RESTAURANTS

Many of our city's most popular restaurants are teaming up for a unique fund-raising effort to help two hometown charitable foundations. The Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation and Keep Memory Alive, the foundation for the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute, launched the Round-Up for Goodness' Sake program yesterday. It gives diners, using their credit or debit card at participating restaurants, a chance to round up their check to the next even dollar amount, or more if they would like. Proceeds from the rounded up amounts on the checks will be divided between the two charitable organizations. Round-Up for Goodness' Sake will run through New Year's Eve. Keep Memory Alive will break ground downtown on a new facility in early February. The building was designed by famed architect Frank Gehry. "Las Vegas has shown time and again that it is a very generous city, and I want to thank the restaurant industry for being part of the 'Round-Up' campaign," said Agassi. "This is a good way for diners and restaurants to join together to continue to help our community." "I am overwhelmed by the wonderful response we have already received from the restaurants here," said Keep Memory Alive Chairman Larry Ruvo. "I personally invite every restaurant in Las Vegas, and everyone who will be dining out in the coming weeks, to join in this fund-raising effort."

Hand holding romantics Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, saw Cirque du Soleil's 'O' at the Bellagio and then, backstage, the action-hero man put on a clown's nose and hat and posed with cast members. ...
