For today’s guest column, Luxe Life is fortunate to have two of Robin’s friends give their takes on the Vegas VIP lifestyle. First up is celebrity stylist and salontrepreneur, Michael Boychuck. VIP. Then, Vegas VIP and B-List Internet Celebrity Jack Colton shares step-by-step instruction on how to be a true Vegas VIP and never wait three hours in line for a Vegas nightclub again.
VEGAS VIP PART I: THE CELEBRITY STYLIST
Las Vegas Now More Glam Than Hollywood
By Michael Boychuck
When I moved from Jacksonville, Florida to Beverly Hills, California to start my career – I thought I had really arrived. After all, Beverly Hills was always headlined as the mecca of stars and posh hair salons – why would I ever want to leave? But my time spent in Beverly Hills under the mentorship of Jose Eber was just preparing me for something bigger, a leading role in shaping the trends and style of the world’s newest beauty destination, Las Vegas. In a short time, this fabulous city has become home to the mega salons and celebrity sightings that rival Los Angeles. I work with two of the most powerful and “cutting edge" star-destinations in Las Vegas, the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and the Palms Casino Resort.
The Venetian has been hailed as one of Las Vegas’ most luxurious casinos since its doors first opened in 1999. It would accept nothing less than the one name that leads the spa industry worldwide: Canyon Ranch. When they wanted to get serious about the salon side of the business they came to me. I had already made my mark on the salon industry in Las Vegas when I opened Laurent Dufourg’s famed Beverly Hills Salon Prive, at Bellagio. At Canyon Ranch, many clients from around the world experience our one-of-a-kind treatments, and comment that the service is better in Vegas than in New York or L.A. The nail treatments in the salon were named the best in Las Vegas and we feature Kerastace as our treatment line. Celebrities love how we make their hair feel. Canyon Ranch does not like to reveal the names of their clientele, but I can assure you, any salon in the world would be envious.
AMP Salon, which I am proud to co-own with the Maloof family, is located in Vegas’ hottest celebrity casino, The Palms. AMP sets the standard for beauty and style and is critically acclaimed. I employ the top stylists from salons around the nation and ensure a trendy atmosphere that is attractive to a customer list that includes celebrities, high rollers and Las Vegas movers and shakers. Celebrities that have made AMP part of their Vegas to-do list include Paris Hilton (pictured), Nicky Hilton, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, Kirsten Dunst, Fergie (from the Black Eyed Peas), Jenny Garth, Willa Ford, Shannen Dougherty and Susan Anton. AMP is now considered the Las Vegas authority in hair extensions. Jenny McCarthy and Nicky Hilton are proof that stars will come to Vegas when you provide the best in hair lengthening or thickening treatments.
AMP is also leading the latest beauty craze – eyelash extensions. This new and rapidly growing phenomenon is all the rage in the beauty industry and is becoming a celebrity must-have. Lashes can be extended to different lengths and come in a spectrum of colors and give eyes a sexy, glamorous look.
I recently created an exciting new salon experience – AMP Afterhours. It’s an exclusive one of a kind ultra-luxury service designed to serve just one privileged couple at a time. Rock stars like Vince Neil and Willa Ford (pictured here) have tried and "loved" this extravagant manicure- pedicure super-service.
At AMP Afterhours, guests have the salon entirely to themselves. Chairs are draped in black satin and the salon glows by candlelight. A beautiful licensed nail technician, modeling the latest lingerie lines, gives guests a platinum pedicure while they sip Cristal champagne and enjoy tasty finger treats and decadent desserts prepared by N9NE restaurant star chef Barry Dakake. If guests desire – a male dancer serving as a butler can be added to their AMP Afterhours experience. Try getting that in L.A!
You have probably seen AMP featured in many magazines and on E! Entertainment Television, The Travel Channel and VH1.I’m told you’ll also be seeing us soon in the Palms video right here on AOL’s Luxe Life.
In her book, ‘Confessions of an Heiress,’ my friend, Paris Hilton, credits me as being her primary colorist, “My color is done mostly by Michael Boychuck, the head colorist and director of the Canyon Ranch Salon at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. He flies to L.A. for me." Much love to Paris - and her new album is fantastic.
The real proof of the new power of Las Vegas is that the big salon names in L.A. and New York are desperately trying to get their foot in the door here. John Barrett has been here as a guest artist and Christophe and Jose Eber of Beverly Hills fame are just settling in. The more hair-stars that set up business on the Strip make coming to Las Vegas like no other experience anywhere in the world.
The main reason, though I think Vegas has become #1 in the salon world is simple: Everybody here prides themselves on making our visitors the stars. I have worked in salons where stylists considered you lucky to see them. At AMP and Canyon Ranch you are the star and it is a privilege to all of us at the Venetian and the Palms to serve you. Hope to see you here soon!
