10. Look to the future: Senator Obama offers the most comprehensive energy plan of any Presidential nominee in history, it will end our dependence on foreign oil and create as many as 5,000,000 jobs. Senator McCain’s plan continues the Bush Administration’s policy of appeasement to Big Oil, does nothing to reduce our dependence on oil, and isn’t as good as Paris Hilton’s.

9. You pollute, you pay: Obama and Biden support plan to make polluters pay for pollution credits and to clean up toxic waste. McCain wants us to foot the bill for clean-up and to give polluters billions in tax breaks and subsidies.

8. Keeping us healthy: Obama and Biden have fought to keep our air and water clean. McCain has voted against clean water ten times and voted six times to make it harder for states and the EPA to keep our air clean.

7. Listening to the scientists: The Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says that America must reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050 in order to avoid the worst effects of global warming. Obama’s plan will reach that goal. McCain’s plan falls far short.

6. The record speaks for itself: Senator Barack Obama earned a lifetime environmental voting score of 86%. Senator Biden earned an 83%. Senator John McCain earned a 24% score.

5. Decisions are made by those who show up: In the last two years, John McCain missed EVERY SINGLE major vote on energy. One vital 2007 bill, to move billions of dollars in tax credits from the oil industry to wind, solar and other clean energy sources, failed by one vote: John McCain’s. Obama and Biden, also running for President, voted for it.

4. Saving money at the pump: Obama proposes to double the fuel efficiency of our cars in 18 years, reducing our oil consumption by at least 35% or 10 millions barrels per day. McCain voted against increasing fuel efficiency in 2003 and 2005. He missed the 2007 vote. Presumably, he ran out of gas.

3. We’re not alone: For more than 20 years, Joe Biden has been at the forefront of the fight against global warming. In 1986, he offered the first Senate bill to fight global warming pollution. Since then, he has been the Senate’s strongest voice for making America the international leader in reducing global warming pollution and exporting clean technology.

2. Higher standards: To create millions of new jobs, we must boost production of renewable electricity. Obama plans create 25% of our electricity from clean energy by 2025. McCain opposes any national renewable energy standard.

1. Judge him by his friends: Senator McCain accepted more than $2 million from the oil and gas industry, more than half of that since he changed his position on offshore drilling last month. His forthcoming plan to open America’s playgrounds and sandboxes to drilling is expected to net another $1.2 million.

Walking Stats: 3-25-08 to 9-5-08 - no walk, Frank's appointment, 3.471, 3.013, 3.176, 2.547, no walk, no walk, Frank's appointment, 3.980 (cooler mornings and lower humidty make it easier to get a little more distance)2.891, 3.888, 3.011

Well, we've been without a paying membership to AOL since the 14th of August and my blog is still up and I'm able to post to it so I might come back here...just have to figure out how to post the photos since I do know they are doing away with the photo sharing feature service. Meanwhile you can see my qualifications for VP on Bupkiss on blogspot. ;-) I hope no one thinks I'm serious...just trying to make a point.

I've started a new blog in two places. One I can't get the hang of and the other I'm kinda getting the hang of posting on it. I'm preparing for the possibility of AOL axing this one. We've had an account with them since we got our first computer. Our email won't change though because you can have a free email account with them even if you're not a member. We're adjusting to the cable RoadRunner that got put in on the 30th. I suppose it's faster than DSL but since I don't download very many things I really can't tell. The web pages seem to load faster and watching movies seems on it seems to go smoother. Plus the web cam doesn't seem as jerky either so I guess it's faster. We bundled our services which includes the land line but it's on a cable connection too. My Mom doesn't care for cell phones very much so the land phone is better for her. To be honest Frank isn't fond of them either because they are small and he has big hands that have a hard time using the little buttons on them. Watched a bit of the Hall of Fame game which had 'news' of Favre landing in Greenbay. I guess you have to be a Packer fan to appreciate this news which I'm not. I think it's much ado about nothing.

Walking Stats: 7-28-08 did 2.985 7-29-08 walked 2.926 7-31-08 saw me getting in 2.530, hot, hot, hot 8-01-08 I managed 2.993 in spite of the heat because we had a nice breeze Cyndi had a problem with a minor surgical procedure but she's doing good now. Still no word from the insurance company about the PET scan. I told Frank if he didn't call them Monday I would or better yet I'd let our daughter-in-law Sandy do the calling. She would give them what for! Did I mention here how much I hate most of the summer television schedule? It's so boring aside from a couple of shows like The Closer, Project Runway, and So You Think You Can Dance. Can't wait for fall with the new shows and football!!! The political scene is sinking into a quagmire of utter nonsense with most of it coming from the the GOP side. I shudder to think what will happen after the conventions are over with. I hope our girl Hillary is sitting in her elegant living room, sipping coffee, and happy very deep down that she is not out there with a target painted on her back. Meanwhile I am looking forward to the upcoming Olympic games. My favorite venues are Track & Field, Swimming, Diving, and Gymnastics.
Check out video of our new kitchen faucet. Silly thing I know but if you only knew how slow our old one was you'd appreciate the new one like we do.

Walking Stats:
7-21-08, hot morning, walked 3.364 miles.
7-22-08, my BD but walked anyway. 3.58 miles
7-23-08, Mom Dr. apt in AM, walked 2.103 miles
7-24-08, cloudy, not too hot, did 3.263 miles
7-25-08, 3.186
7-26 to 7-27-08 no walking
7-28-08, icky, sticky, heat and I did 2.584
We're getting cable broadband which will only leave us with AOL email so I'm thinking I'll have to move my blog. Going to try to save as much of it as possible. Also AOL is cutting the I've Got Pictures service plus some others so I'm thinking the blog service might fall victim to the cost cutting measures they are taking. This means I'll have to move a ton of photos I've saved either to a disc or to another program which is sucky but it'll have to be done. Frank was going to have a PET scan tomorrow but they have to wait until the insurance approves it. Seems they are dragging their feet but he also has two other insurances so I'm sure one of them will come through. It was intimidating to go to the Texas Oncology Clinic, I can only imagine how Frank must have felt. The doctor was nice though, and positive, plus she knows the doctor who operated on his leg in 1993 when he had a more serious bout with 'c'. We'll keep you informed on his progress.
My knees one week after I fell on my morning walk.

I didn't post my walking stats on the last post so here they are lest you think I'm not keeping to the plan. 7-13 no walk. 7-14 it was hot, hot, hot, and I managed to get in 2.569 miles. 7-15 did 3.041 miles. 7-16 Frank had surgery but I did get in some walk time waiting for him to be discharged. 7-17 I did 2.359 miles. This was the day I fell and bruised my knees and ego. 7-18 was a fabulous rare morning with a cool breeze to off set this oppressive heat wave we've been having and I got in 4.178 miles. 7-19 no walk. 7-20 it was icky, hot and sticky and I only did 2.641 miles. Bad news on the obesity front. As a country we're not making much progress in getting and keeping the pounds off. http://news.aol.com/article/south-remains-nations-fattest-region/88630 Here in Austin you see hundreds of people on the hike and bike trails and streets every day getting their workouts in. As a city I think they do a lot to help people lead a healthy life style but they can't make each and every person lead that life style so as always it's up to the individual to make the choices that affect their health and well being. For all my whining I do encourage anyone who wants to lead a healthier life to get up off the couch and do a little exercise. You'll feel better about yourself for it. Also one neat fact I found is thisl; for every ONE pound you lose you take FOUR pounds of pressure off of your knees! Is that cool or what?
