Feeling Happy
Hearing my memory's echoing laughter of two little girls!!

Happy Thoughts

It was a happy birthday weekend for my daughter. My eldest daughter turned eight years old today. We spent the weekend together She.. her younger sister, my wife and I.. A party at Billy Bob's Pizza Funland, happened Saturday, and wonder of wonders.. I was able to figure out how one of the ticket games worked well enough to win several hundred tickets for the kids to 'spend' at the prize counter. My Birthday Girl's Choice: a metallic purple stuffed alien guy with gold eyes. Yep.. thats my daughter. Many of her friends from school were there as well as her Mom. (They live with their Mother.. I am a weekend Dad.)  One of the things my wife and I got the birthday girl was a Real Meal Oven. Its the newest generation of Easy Bake ovens.. no lightbulbs and it can cook two pans at once. The first night she used it she made Macaroni and Cheese for her and her sister to have at dinner.. Her sister used the Easy Bake mixer to whip instant potatoes. After dinner they made various cookies. Tonight, after her birthday dinner with Dad, we packed up for her and her younger sister to head back to their Mom's house. My wife and I had just helped them ice little marble cakes to take with them to share with their Mom and Step-Dad. They were so proud of the cakes.. They got to make and serve the birthday cake today, and it made them literally beam with joy to do so.

So all this long weekend together the house has smelled of little cakes, cookies and the like. Now that I am back home after dropping my daughters off.. and enjoying a cigarette in my living room.. not in the back Kitchen near the window or in the bathroom with the vent. Its kinda a sad pleasure. The house is quiet, and here and there a toy lies that didnt quite make it back to the bin. Pieces of a Pirate Ship game..A Barbie jeep is parked next to a Slave 1 that is from my own youth.. (They inherited all my old Star Wars toys.) The smell of cakes has faded, and the sounds of their laughter linger only in my memories of our time together over the past few days. Eight years old.. What an age to be.. She is, indeed, an excellent young lady.. as is her sister.  Creator bless her and keep her another year.  It is a incredible joy to be a father..
