Feeling Embarrassed
Hearing David Byrne, Uh-Oh

Catching up..

Well, I just started this thing and I already let it fall behind. There are a couple of reasons. For one, my wife is about to undergo surgury and so we've been spending more time together.. (yeay!) The other reason is that my attentions, those times after my wife has fallen asleep, have been taken up by some new literature I aquired.. (I'm a Night Owl at times.)  For non fiction presently I am reading Richard Cohen's work By the Sword. I have only just started this work the other evening and I must say it is interesting. I have not made a decision yet as to how much I like the book, but so far it has been good basic overview, admitting its own focuses and giving mention to areas that are not covered. I want to like it, but I am not certain I will.. some of the author's slants and takes are very different than some of my own opinions. But hey, I'm still a student, and learning others views opens new avenues of perspectives. I plan to work up a post or two here that are my personal reviews of the work. The other work I picked up but have not started yet is a reprinting of Alexandre Dumas' novel, The Knight of Maison-Rouge. When I saw that this work had been published.. (something that has not happened in a long long time..) I had to own one. Thank you Random House. Now I can sit back and wait for the reverberations amoung the re-enactment community, for those who make the connection. In truth the reason I prompted the name Maison Rouge for our modern consortium of historically minded fencers was a due to a difficulty certain folks had with Avarim.. so we added the offical name of Maison Rouge, in honor of that having been the name of the barraks of the Musketeers. Now, this republished novel comes out the same month our Fencers swept the battlefield. Fate, Kismet, Karma, Whatever... I love it!!!
