Feeling Happy

"On being LEGAL for the 3rd time!!"

Just wanted to say Hello to All as I spend my last day as a 62 year old.

Seems the older I get, the less I write. (Should be the other way around, huh?)

NEW NEWS!

--I no longer work at the Golf Course

--I do work as a "Security Guard" at a new  Health Care facility that's within 3 miles of where we live, which is especially nice with these outlandish gas prices.

--My hours are 11:00 pm to 7:00 am Monday thru Thursday

I'm really nothing more than a glorified receptionist, NO GUN, and spend the night watching TV, Movies, and reading. If I didn't have Direct Deposit for my checks, I'ld have to back up to the window to get them. It's like "stealing", BUT, someone has to do it.

How did you get the job, Rich?

Linda, my bride, also works there. She works days, so we're like "2 ships passing", BUT, in many ways we see more of each other. Anyhow, she heard about the job opening and called me to see if I knew of anyone who might be interested. I laughed her off and told "nobody I know would want to work a MID SHIFT!!" So I went about my business and started thinking about the job (Heck, I wasn't sleeping very well anyway, so why not get paid for it) Long story, short, got the job and started Feb 11. Took a while to get used to the "goofy" shift, BUT, I'm getting more used to it everyday, and really like it.

I had to stop at the Golf Course because of Social Security. They keep you bottled up quite a bit before you hit 65, on how much you can earn before they start taking it back (1 buck for every 2 you make over their yearly limit) Kinda sucks, BUT, to be honest with you, I was losing interest anyway, so it worked out good for all. (same people, same gripes, etc.)

So my new nickname is "sheriff", which I ignore. Needless tosay, much razzing goes on (which I love) and many laughs are had.

Still playing Golf, seems to be better with my new hours. Don't have those morning "shakes" since I can't do many Happy Hours!! (I'm probably getting way too healthy)

Not gonna go through the "routine", just felt like "Ramblin' " a little. You know how I feel. (Maybe, with this shift I could...............)

Just Hangin' Around!!

Haven't been here since May???? Impossible!! Very possible, when you never take the time to write anything, huh??

So, I'm writing (pecking, actually), BUT, what should I write about? Will anyone care? Do I have the audacity to expect anyone to care? NAH!!

So, I'm a Social Security recipient now! I was eligible April 23, and got my first "HUGE" check, the last Wednesday in June. (Wonder what happened to my May money, must have gone to a worthy cause, I'm sure)

Now, after all these months of collecting, I feel like the "burden" on the nation that I've worked so hard for, all these years!! (Now, the real Boomers are coming, and the world will end any day)

Linda is beautiful and fine, I'm fine, our bird, Holbie, a parakeet, is literally on her last leg (She's 15 or 16. which is old for parakeets, I've been told)

The Rambler, has become quite the Gambler, of late. Was on a super roll from June thru August, been kinda COLD of late. All I play are Penny slots!! What a ball!! (I'm even a Gold Member at my "regular" casino, which gets me several really nice perks each month)

I'm done at the Golf Course for the Winter, as of Sep 30th, until May 1 of next year. (I'll fill in once in a while, like tomorrow for 2 hours, but no regular schedule) This frees me up to play more, yes, the weather has been great, and plan my once a week trip to Blackhawk Casino's!!

Fixed some "homemade" chili for supper tonight. Been cooking it all day and it smells so darn good!!

Just put this into spellcheck mode and I've got yellow stuff flashing at me from everywhere!! Must be a warning that I've overstayed my welcome.

Thanx for listening......Rambler

Feeling Quiet

I miss you too!!

Thanks for the "nice" thoughts and prayers. Appreciated!!

Just got home from my LONG DAY of work- 6a.m. to 6:30p.m.- UGH!! I'm really beat, BUT, because I've been "GONE" so long, thought I'd ramble a little bit. O.K.?

The TV season is coming to an end! TGIO!!

My infatuation with 24 has turned into infuriation. The minute something happens, you know what happens next. Different groups, same basic story. Too bad, I really liked it. Guess they should have quit while they were ahead.

LOST is lost.

Greys Anatomy is great, BUT, I'll hold off on the SPINOFF deal until I see more.

Still like SHARK, NUMBERS, CSI...(All of them),L & O (same), MEDIUM!!......I finally broke down and got a DVR for my TV. Still have to tape in the bedroom occasionally(sounds a little kinky, heh??)

Also, as of May 26 I'm getting the complete COMCAST package. I will no longer be using AOL as my ISP, BUT, will still "belong" and continue my infrequent rants and raves (I HOPE!!) I'm assuming this will not be a problem. If anyone knows something I don't, or has some sage advice, PLEASE let me know before I switch!!

About time for the bride to get home, so I'll get outta here.

Thanks, again, for all your comments.

Sad News

After all my "joy" over making it to 62, the Big Guy jumped in and slowed me down.

My wife's dad died on May 9th. He had been sick, and was in a hospital, and we really didn't expect him to ever go home again, BUT, it still caught us off guard.

He died in his sleep, and we buried him yesterday. Truly a beautiful service.

One of the highlights was the releasing of the doves, just before his internment. Not a dry eye left after that.

Linda has taken it well. She's a trooper.

Gotta run. Thanks for the recent comments. I'll try to get to you personally, if possible.

Rich (Rambler)

Feeling Happy

I SURVIVED!!

It is now April 24th and I'm here to talk about it!

Started celebrating Friday p.m., "rested" on Sat., played golf and celebrated a little more on Sun.

Yesterday, the ACTUAL birthday, My Bride & I went to Blackhawk gambling. Lost early BUT made a great comeback so we came out $40.00 up! Not bad, huh?

Thanks for the previous comments. Hadn't posted in so long thought I might have been deleted. Good to hear from you all!!

The weatherman is celebrating the day after by bringing SNOW & RAIN AND COLD, I mean COLD!!

Next week I start my "full" summer work schedule....Sun a.m., Mon a.m., Thurs a.m. & p.m. and Fri a.m., with an occasional Sat a.m. thrown in....Sure am enjoying the "retired" life! Seriously, if I didn't work I'd go nuts. Can't afford to play golf everyday, wouldn't want to anyway. Still enjoy working with the "public" though, I must admit I'm a little orneryer (sp) in my more MATURE years!!

Just wanted to give a quick update, not take up your whole day.

Thanks again,

The Rambler

Feeling Anxious

GEEZERHOOD!!

I know I haven't been here in a while, and won't guarantee when I'll be back, BUT, had to ANNOUNCE my membership in the life of a SOCIAL SECURITY receipient.

Now, with good old Uncle Sugar, they're always some little hitches, as I'm sure you all know!

I turn 62 next monday, 23rd, BUT, I don't get a dime from SS until the 4th Wednesday in JUNE!!! How's that for timely an accurate payment?

However, when I get to be 65 and eligible for Medicare (WHICH I DON'T NEED, OR WANT) they start DEDUCTING 5 days before I turn 65!!

I'm not complaining, in fact, I'm thankful that SS is still here for me. I realize there are issues that need to be addressed, BUT, I'm here as an old Geezer, not a soap box ranter!!

Besides, you know me better than that!! LOL!!

Anyhow, my, and my Linda's health is fine, my golf game is , actually, a little BETTER (hard to believe, BUT, the surgery really helped!!)

Realize I've been totally non responsive for some time, nothing personal, just haven't been doing much of anything on this here computer except paying bills.

True story, before I go: On March 30, I was going to go up the hills to Blackhawk to do a little gambling. I left here about 10:00 a.m. and got to my interstate ramp, and couldn't get on due to an accident. (I never have just driven up there by myself, so I was quite disappointed) Well, what was I to do? Too early for Church, or any "meetings", soooooo, I went to my buddies bar!! We have these Lottery Scratch tickets that I play once in awhile, so I said to myself, "Self!!, might as well play a few with the money I was taking to the hills anyway!! Well, I'll be darned.....after a very minimal , and I do mean minimal, output of funds, I hit $20,000!!!!!!!!!! Thank God for that accident!!! (By the way, no one was hurt, just a truck flipped and spilled junk all over)

As you know, we had a bad winter here, and I got zero work hours (can't play golf in the snow) so this was truly a blessing. Of course, my favorite Uncle, got his LARGE cut, BUT, I'll never complain, just isn't my nature....

Gotta go

the RAMBLER!!

Senseless Tragedy

Darrant Williams!!!

What a shame! All the years I've been a sports fan, never had one of my "heroes" killed! What's the world coming too??

So sad! Williams, was only 24 years old!!

I had never met him, just watched him play, BUT, you could tell he had that "special" stuff that separates the greats from the average.

What a terrible waste!!

Feeling Frustrated
Hearing Oldies

The Great White Two!!

Where do I begin? What can I say? Why has it been so long?............As Gilda Radner used to say, so eloquently, "NEVER MIND"

I've lived in the Denver area for a total of 30+ years, and I've never seen so darn much snow!! (Thankfully, I can watch it and not have to shovel much of it) Does the phrase "Cabin Fever" ring a bell?

Basically, just wanted to let everyone know that we're alive & well, inspite of the weather. (Don't even mention the GOLF word!!)

Hope that everyone had a great Christmas, and that the New Year is good to you!

Can you believe, not one entry since the elections? No, I'm not mellowing out. Being a Realist, foremost, I'll do a little "wait & see" before I shoot my mouth off.

One thing that just sickens me, and I'm not being hateful, is the continuing loss of young lives in the Mid-East. Everyday, it seems, there is an article in the paper about a kid (18-25) who has "willingly" given his life for the support of this needless whatever you want to call it. All the stories are the same: "Tommy" always wanted to be a (fill in the space- Marine, Soldier, etc) so we know he was "doing what he LOVED?" He/She was a wonderful, happy, person, who loved everyone & everything, etc., etc., etc! (Do you think, maybe, that he kinda liked LIVING and being given the chance to grow up, raise a family, or whatever?) I just find it hard to believe, that Cindy Sheehan is the only parent out there that is seriously protesting and making noise! Have we all become gutless lambs that will follow "Mary" wherever "she" goes?

My apologies to any of you that may have lost a loved one, my intent is not to demean that loss in anyway. As a retired military man, they are all my "brothers/sisters," and I feel deeply for all.

Bet you couldn't wait to hear this, huh? Sorry, just had to share a deep concern.

In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the Holiday Season!!

Talk to ya next year, if not sooner. (Can't go anywhere!! LOL)

Feeling Happy

Gully Gee Whiz, It's Sept Already!!??!!

This is an example of what too much Tequila can do to a nice guy! The picture is of a friend of mine vacationing in Mazatlan in March of this year. It has nothing to do with nothing, just thought I'ld stick a pic in to let you know I was alive.

WELL!! I am alive, feeling GREAT!! Have come to terms with all that has transpired (life must go on) and am ready to be THE RAMBLER again. Probably not as frequently as I would like, BUT, at least enough to spray out a few nonsensical tales, now and then.

I have an additional job now, and it really cuts into my "creative" time. I work at another golf course, as a "Cart Guy" on Thurs & Fri mornings from 5:30 to Noon! Hate the early part, but love the getting off at Noon, so it's a push. Not paid a lot, BUT, I get TIPS!! (It's a Country Club)

So, it's WORK, Work, Work, work, for this old guy. Guess it keeps me out of trouble, and gives me a little extra "mad money!"

On a serious note, NAH!! too early for a serious note, maybe later.

Just wanted to get out a little message.

Adios!!

Feeling Chillin'

Life goes on

I just can't get a good feel for writing these days, BUT, feel I must, regardless.

Soooo, the sudden departure of my Sis, to a much saner place, has slowly sunken in, and is being dealt with by all.

I, on the other hand, was given a "slap" to the face by my Doctor, last week. As you may or may not know, I'm a Type II diabetic, have been for several years. As with most things in my life, I just kinda took it for granted that I could "do it my way" and not get to concerned. I learned how to "offset" cheating, by increasing exercising and "fasting" prior to my bi-annual check-ups.

OOPS! He caught me this time! I've been so busy enjoying the summer I didn't get last year, and I do mean ENJOYING, that I got totally away from any serious exercise, and just ate & drank whatever I felt like. WELL, when my blood sugar failed all the tests last time, young Dr Ross laid down the law. BEST THING THAT'S HAPPENED IN A LONG TIME!

I'm now on a health kick and "good" diet that should get me back "in shape" in a matter of months. I see him again in October, and in one short week my "sugar" count is much better.

Hate to bore you with this, BUT, wanted to share.

I , also, got another job, at another golf course! This 61 year old geezer is now a "cart boy" at a Country Club!! Gets me "FREE" golf, exercise (Lot of lifting) and a few extra bucks for posterity! Work from 5:30 to Noon, Thurs & Fri. (even get tips!) I'll be right up there with those high falootin' "rich" people before I know it! I'll (I was gonna say "probably have to vote for the next Bush!") NEVER!!!

Anyhow, been nice talkin' at ya! My Bride and I send our best to all ya!
