Round Robin Tomorrow!

Pickle, My CatWhile I'm here testing the new J-updates I'd be remiss not to extend an invitation to join the Round Robin Photo Challenge. The topic this round is:
"Offer Three and Shoot One"
Think of three topics for a photo theme. Share all three in an update and shoot one. Any topics, it's a wide open challenge this round.

Sign up on the Blogger blog linked above. I'm host this round so if logging into blogger is not possible for you, just leave your links here and I'll get you onto the linking list. This is a great challenge to jump in with as Carly, Karen and I will be using the topics offered in future challenges.

Browse the Round Robin Blog to see how we do things. It's an every two week photo challenge.

May I Just Say...

Steven, I've been meaning to email you anyway but didn't get around to it, so I'll just say it here instead.

I really liked what you did for this weekend's RR topic!  What a clever way to increase our suggestion pool, and make people feel that their input is valued!

Carly, do you think this shared authorship enhancement would be helpful on the private RR journal?

Karen

Chrysalis Watch : Day Twenty Two : Emergence

Canon S2is

Chrysalis to Monarch
Welcome to day twenty two! We have butterfly! Sometime early this morning chrysalis watch turned into butterfly watch. Rain this morning and the monarch was already outside of the chrysalis with it's wings fully extended.
Chrysalis to Monarch
After a few minutes of observing and snapping photos the monarch began to climb all the while pulsing it's wings. Good sign as it reacted to my presence by climbing and moving away from me which means it's healthy and an active critter. I left it alone and went about my day.
Chrysalis to Monarch
Late this afternoon the monarch was still hanging about. Not unusual as it rained most of the day. The butterfly had climbed several feet above it's now empty chyrsalis. Perfect spot to fly off with good shelter from the rain.

I'll look for the butterfly tomorrow but I doubt if it'll be hanging around. Love to photograph this one with some good light falling on the fresh wings. Maybe I'll see this one again. If not, good luck little monarch butterfly!

Chrysalis Watch : Day Twenty One

Canon S2is

Chrysalis
Welcome to day twenty one. The final color shift has begun!  Above is the morning photo and below is the afternoon shot. This is the biggest one day change since the caterpillar first formed the chrysalis.
Chrysalis
Before I blogged this tonight I went out and checked the chrysalis and it's become even more transparent. The top is still a dark green and it could be completely transparent in a few more hours. Butterfly emergence tomorrow morning is possibility.

Chrysalis Watch : Day Twenty

Canon S2is

Chrysalis
Welcome to day twenty. The base of the chrysalis has become much darker today. Still no big shift toward transparency but I'm expecting that any day now. Hopefully sooner rather than later. It's really up to the butterfly when it wants to make it's move.

Conditions are perfect as I'm seeing and photographing butterflies on a daily basis. A Monarch today along with a Gulf Fritillary. A Snout butterfly the other day. Blooms are thining out but there are still enough to sustain the butterflies.

Chrysalis Watch : Day Nineteen

Canon S2is

Chrysalis
Welcome to day nineteen. I'm watching for the final color shift to transparent but it did not happen today. Past two days the high temperature has been almost 80 degrees and it's supposed to stay warm through next week. I'm expecting the shift any day now.

This is what it should look like.

Chrysalis Watch : Day Eighteen

Canon S2is

Chrysalis
Welcome to day eighteen. A little wing detail in this shot. The butterfly's head is at the bottom and the wings stretch back towards the top of the chrysalis. Here is page that shows how the monarch climbs out. Still awaiting that final color change.

More monarch link action for ya. Video from Rueters on the monarch migration South into mexico. Houston is along their migration route and as they fly through they will deposit eggs on the milkweed plants they happen across.

Hope your Thanksgiving day treated you well!
