Mass RFID tagging for foods by 2015

New update - forget about 2015 try NOW!  I found an RFID computer tag on my baby's formula that I purchased at Eckerds!  Doing a web search led me to an article which said that Eckerds has started doing this to all their merchandise.  Here is a press release concerning their joining Checkpoint systems -

News Brief...

Mass RFID tagging for foods by 2015?
24 Oct 2005

By 2015 some 900 billion food items could well be RFID-tagged, and 824 million livestock will have more sophisticated, more expensive tags either on or inside them, according to a market analysis report available from Research and Markets. According to the report, 'Food and Livestock Traceability', tens of millions of RFID tags have already been applied to livestock and food, and millions of biometric procedures have been carried out, in order to stem outbreaks such as foot and mouth disease, mad cow disease, avian flu, and even bio-terrorist threats. McDonald's recently mandated full traceability from its suppliers, Wal-Mart is already having incoming pallets and cases RFID-tagged - which some say is a prelude to item-level tagging. The report examines the laws and market changes that will introduce RFID tracking into food products worldwide.
