Feeling Quiet
Remembering....
Imagine you are young, you are sitting with a gun in your hands and you are being shot at. You are in a different land other than the one you were born, but you are fighting for the freedom of your homeland. You are a soldier. You are an American Soldier, proud, brave and committed to protecting the land that you love As brave as you may be, can you imagine how your heart must be pounding hearing the guns shooting bullets around you? You may feel the burn as a bullet goes into your body, you may not. You see your life flashing before your eyes and you wonder is this it? Am I dead?
Today we honor all the men and women who have fought for America. These men and women had one thing in common; they never came home from the wars. Memorial Day is to honor the war dead. These are the ones who fought side by side for the freedoms that we as Americans share. Some may have left behind a family, young children, a young wife. Others may leave parents, brothers, sisters… grand parents who will struggle to understand why such a young loved one was killed… But they all will stand a bit taller and in time will find a smile to say… My son or daughter died a hero, fighting for our country.
Dear Heavenly Father, on this day that we have set aside to remember our war heroes, I pray that you will touch their souls once again with a loving hand, remind them that we have not forgotten them or the freedoms we have. Hold those they left behind warmly in your loving arms and help the hurt go away… replace the loneliness with your love. Lord some were too young, others given the chance would once again give up their lives for this country. Dear Father, thank you for your grace, your love and for forgiving me of my sins. Bless my family, friends, neighbors, people I have met and those that I am destined to meet. I pray for guidance in this life and that you give me compassion Lord for those who are less fortunate. I pray that you will be with those traveling this holiday weekend… those who are saddened and those who are ecstatic. Lord, thank you for your son Jesus Christ whose blood washed away my sin. In his Holy Name I pray… amen
