I couldn't believe the audacity of Felos in describing Terri's "death process" as peaceful. Even the doctors who examined her said that she responded to stimuli as a reflexive movement. She squinted in bright light too. If she responded in any way, she was able to feel the pain of dehydration and starvation and just in case, was given pain meds. Incredible how the news stations, Michael Schiavo's attorneys, judges and politicians could sweep her life under the umbrella of Right- to-Die platitudes (more like right to kill and dispose of) and assume her wishes were to die of starvation.
I'd like to see any of us, brain damaged (we are all losing brain cells as this is typed and read) or not go without food and water (fasting) for more than three days and say it isn't painful! Mr. Felos is hell-bent on a death agenda to the extent that he was a co-conspirator in Terri Schiavo's murder. It is murder!
To those of you who say those "fanatical Right-Wing conservative Christians" made a spectacle of Terri's "death process" are wrong. Those were people who had compassion and concern about a woman being murdered by judges, a (uh-hum) so-called concerned and loving (don't make me ill) husband, and all those who made excuses for not wanting to interfere in such a "personal family matter."
Would you stand by while someone starved a so-called viable, VOTING, member of society who goes to work every day and pays taxes to support the politicians and judges?
Our country is on a slippery slope by allowing this to happen to anyone. I truly fear for the U.S.A. if we follow this path and kill the innocent and those incapable to care for themselve.
Our politicians and judges who do not consider life precious, will reap what they sow in some form. smohr -
My daughter worked with a woman "Mary" very similar in many respects to Terri Schiavo. Her attacker STRANGLED her and thinking she was dead left her outside on her sidewalk for her family to find.
This woman did not respond in any way to strangers, to nurses who acted like she was PVS and treated her like a lump on the bed, to doctors who she hardly knew. She did however respond only to the family who visited her almost every day.
When my daughter worked with her, she thought at first that the woman was PVS, but after ten months, "Mary" began reaching out her knarled frail arms for a hug from my daughter. She began smiling at my daughter. When she took "Mary" out in the sun, "Mary" made noises that sounded like she was talking. When her family was with her she responded the same way. Her family gave permission, against the advice of the hospice, for my daughter to take her on drives and I met "Mary" once. She didn't respond, but looked away from me when I talked, until my daughter told her I was "mommy" and I was a nice person. She reached out her arms and I gave her a hug.
You see, though brain damaged, "Mary" knew and responded to those she TRUSTED and recognized as KIND to her, but ignored the others. No one killed Mary, but she passed away 17 years after her attack from several small strokes. She went to sleep one night and passed to heaven. Mary didn't die when her brain was deprived of oxygen (as Mr. Schiavo claims Terri was dead the day he "found" her unconscious) and she lived and loved many years after. smohr -
To those who think this whole injustice was an attack on the family - you just haven't a clue! This was a case of tug of war with Michael Schiavo being the manipulator and control freak. He wanted her dead to "show who is the boss" over his wife's life. He would rather kill her by the most cruel means than give her care over to her parents. A manipulator of the highest order. That is not the love he proclaimed to have for her and it is ridiculous to assume so. I believe there is a clinical name for his mental condition.
As in centuries past, it seems that husbands are still permitted to dispose of their wives as they see fit! History has men killing their wives with no other reason than they wanted a new wife or no committments with no consequences. On the word of only the husband, the wife could be put to death.
It seems history is repeating itself with Michael Schiavo doing the same. In court records of the lawsuit (I looked it up) he filed against the hospital for compensation of lost "services" - archaic - from his wife, he promised to care for her for the rest of her life. Before the money came in he had a whole different persona. His amnesia ended seven years later when he suddenly "recalled" his wife's request to not be kept alive by artificial means! Convenient is too innocent a word for Mr. Schiavo's motives. Apparently taking care of his wife (as he swore in court and to her parents) for the rest of her life meant all along that he would be able to decide when her life ended.
If Michael Schiavo's present girlfriend doesn't already fear him, she should....

I would like to extend my condolences to the whole Schindler family. I cannot believe all you have had to endure and now Michael deprives you of being part of the burial decisions. I had something similar happen to me when my Mother died and so I can relate to the pain. I know that all the best wishes in the world will not heal what you are feeling. Just know there are people out there who support and care about you. May God bless you all.

I completely understand your grief. However, now that Terri is gone, why not try to pick up the pieces of your lives and move on. No more lawsuits...what purpose will that serve? Are you not going to be satisfied until someone tells you what you want to hear? Terri was in a PSV condition that would never get better no matter what type of rehab you could provide for her. Facts are facts. Try to move on to something positive in your lives so that you can heal. Nothing is going to bring Terri back!
