"Wimps to the Right of Me"
Yes, the above is part of the title of Bernie Goldberg's book.
The reference here is to the CNN/YouTube debate.
There is recent news that the Republican National Committee has been recruiting rich candidates, because it is not able to raise enough money to support poorer candidates.
What is the reason for this? I think it is obvious. Republicans in Congress, and running for office, too often seem to be WIMPS--unwilling and/or unable to stand up for themselves and for what they "believe".
The CNN debate is an example. Rush Limbaugh is correct. If ANY of the main Republican candidates had walked out of that debate--saying that it was the biased farce it was--that candidate would be the Republican nomination frontrunner today. Instead, there was not even a peep out of the candidates as to the way CNN conducted the debate. If any of the candidates had merely confronted Anderson Cooper, after the disgraceful attempt to embarrass the candidates with that Clinton gay general, that candidate would be leading the polls next week.
Romney and Giuliani had harsh words for each other. They would have been better off to have said at least equally harsh words about CNN. Anderson Cooper, for example, PRESSED Huckabee on what Jesus would have done about the death penalty (a ridiculous question). Huckabee deflected the question by saying that "Jesus had the good sense never to run for public office." How much better would it have been if Huckabee had said: "Anderson, I resent the way you are trying to USE Jesus in this debate. Jesus should not be used this way, in an attempt to make political points. In fact, the question about whether every word of the Bible should be take literally was insulting. If we decide things in this country on the basis of religion, then I think I--as a Baptist minister--should probably be elected. Ministers profess to have more insight into Jesus than people who have not studied religion. But it is WRONG to put a political campaign on that basis, and WRONG to ask questions like this."
See recent entries in this blog, where I have conclusively shown that it is LEFTISTS like CNN, Anderson Cooper, and most of the mainstream media, who are the religious bigots in this country.
But it is NOT just a matter of one question. CNN made it clear that it was CONFRONTING the Republican candidates, while--at the Democratic debate--it was BOLSTERING the Democratic candidates.
WHY should Republicans go on CNN again? For example, Fred Thompson is going on Larry King. Are Republicans WIMPS? Democrats have boycotted Fox News, even though Fox News has NEVER treated Democrats as unfairly as CNN treated Republicans at the YouTube debate.
I don't care if Republicans would take more heat for boycotting a mainstream media outlet than Democrats have taken for boycotting Fox News. If you are not going to boycott, you at least have to SAY SOMETHING.
Probably THE basis issue in this campaign is: Have Republicans become WIMPS. Is there ANY Republican candidate willing and able to stand up to both the Clinton machine AND the mainstream media. If not, why vote for them?
