The Maverick Conservative

NBC has now "flipped" on the "support our troops ad" (see entry toward the end of last week), and will allow the ad.  That does not change a word of what I said, and I see no reason anyone should ever watch NBC or NBC News (other than one time events like a big sports event--we have to keep our priorities straight here).  These mainstream media outlets are NOT on "our side".  They are on the side of our enemies (as are many Democrat politicians).  This was illustrated yet again today in various ways.

There was the despicable Associated Press, with its story about how "Congress" is "demanding" action as to the destruction of those 2002 tapes (not long after 9/11) of interrogation of TERRORISTS.  No, I have no clue as to why anyone was stupid enough to make videotapes in the first place.  But whoever ordered them destroyed (in 2005) deserves a MEDAL.  If those tapes still existed, THEY WOULD COME OUT.  Joe Biden, for example, said that he had "no confidence" in the Justice Department investigatio of this becaues the new Attorney General refused to label "waterboarding" as torture in all circustances.  Can you possibly doubt that someone would "leak" these tapes, if they still existed.  And it does not really matter if they showed something that could be argued to be "torture" (almost anything, in other words, incuding the kinds of things that Janet Reno did in Waco).  The ONLY "use" of these tapes would be to HURT the USA.  The argument (see the entry entitled "Democrats:  Insane") would be OVER WHETHER THE INTERROGATION WAS TOO HARSH, and NOT over what the terrorists had done (or knew).  That is what the Democrats are interested in:  HURTING thist country.  Sure, they think they are targeting the Bush Administration.  But that is where they are INSANE.  You can't trash your country over and over again, with no perspective, and they say everythign is fine once Democrats get into power.  The damage is done.  Copies of those interrogation tapes--no matter whether what they showed was defensible or not--would have caused irretrievable damage to the United States, and jumping down the throats of CIA agents who had DARED to put the interests of the U.S. ahead of the interests of terrorists would merely have started the process of UNDERMINING our intelligence once again--intelligence that has proved defective because of previous efforts to "playnice" in the dirty world of international intelligence.  Nope.  I am not saying we should endorse torture.  I AM saying that these endless "investigation" of long ago, isolated events serves no purpose at all.

Then the despicable Associated Press, and AOL, featured a story today that again ITEMIZED every terorist attack in Iraq Sunday, including QUOTING Al Qaeda).  I could not even make up the headline; it is so bad.  The headline was that 5 INMATES in an Iraqi prison were killed in a mortar attack.  This is "news".  Yes,  that is a totally meaningless event.  The despicable AP (it did the same thing with that hurricane "threatening" the detention facility at Guantanamo) seems to think that special care needs to be taken to protect PRISONERS.  I have no problem with the idea that inmates should not be killed, but the idea that terrorists attacking a prison is "news" is just insane.  Then the despicable AP went on to itemize every other terrorist attack on Sunday, in its self-apporinted role as PRESS AGENT for the terrorists.  As I have noted before, the way they CAUGHT this AP photographer accused of beng a terrorist is probably that he was LESS obvious in his sympathy for the terrorists than the rest of the despicable Associated Press (trying not to call attention to himself as being overly on the side of the terrorists).  ANY Associated Press employee not OBVIOUSLY acting as a press agent for the terrorists is SUSPICIOUSLY abnormal.

All of the above is basically an aside.  The purpose of this entry is to note just how bad NBC is.  It is not just that NBC turned down an ad merely "thanking" our troops on the ground--really--that it was being purchased by a "conservative" organization that identified its website.  The EXPLANATION of NBC was the WORST of the whole thing, and told you exactly where NBC was, and is, coming from.

As I have told you, leftists do NOT believe in "free speech", except for leftists.  NBC said that it turned down this "controversial" paid ad because NBC reporters and employees were perfectly capable of discussing issues without letting people advocate their position on issues in paid ads (as if "thanking the troops" was a "controversial" "issue", but that is almost beside the point, except to illustrate just how bad NBC is).

Look at what NBC is really saying (and it is the mainstream media (plus its leftist allies) PRIMARILY behind the attempts to limit ads in this country--such as by McCain/Feingold.  The mainstream media wants to be the SOLE source of the information we get--like they used to be.  Unfortunately for them, that boat has sailed.  Not many peple even watch NBC anymore--especially the "news".  Almost no one CARES what NBC personnel think about issues, and almost no one trusts them not to be pushing an agenda of their own.  If ever distrust were justified, this is the case.  This is partly because of the internet, but has been vastly accelrated by the agenda behind everything the mainstream media does.

The same is true with regard to "negative ads".  Say NBC (or others in the mainstream media) decided to try to "raise the tone" of politics by limiting or prohibiting "negative" ads.  Would that "raise the tone" of politics in America?  Of course not.  The PRIMARY source of negative ads (disguised as "news", and smears, in this country IS THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA.  If they succeeded in preventing candidates from running "negative" ads, it would just pput the mainstream media in total control of the field.  Already, candidates would PREFER that the mainstream media run the really smear stuff, so that the candidates can calim "clean" hands.  Since the mainstream media has become virtually an arm of the left wing of the Democratic Party, this means that IF the mainstream media could get control of the entire "negative" side of politics, Democrats would have a huge advantage.  Even apart from this agenda to help Democrats, the mainstream media simply wants the POWER.

It is ironic that the mainstream media has the LEAST power, as its grabs for power become the MOST obvious.  Or maybe that is to be expected, as the mainstream media gets desperate.  But I have had it up to here (motioning above the top of my head) with the LYING, SANCTIMONIOUS HYPOCRISY of the mainstream media.  They DESERVE to disappear into the dustbin of history, and they are.
