President Bush: Wimp--Democrats: Insane
One of the best titles around (I may not get it exactly right, but this is close) is Bernie Goldberg's book title: "Crazies to the Left of Me; Wimps to the Right."
lDespite his well known stubbornness, and habit of sayng the same thing over and over again, President Bush has a curious reluctance to take on his critics directly--a curious reluctance to take advantage of the "bully pultpit" to lower the boom on his critics. This is the true reason for the Valerie Plame non-scandal. Valerie Plame, as an employee of the CIA (whether she was, in some sense, "covert", was always irrelevant), arranged for the CIA to send her HUSBAND, Joe Wilson, to Niger--ostensibly for the CIA. Wilson came backm and--knowing this would result in his wife's employment coming out--said he was sent to Niger by the BUSH ADMNISTRATION. This, and other LIES, were part of an attempt (successful, really) by Joe Wilson and his wife to PROMOTE themselves as Bush Administratio critics. The Washington Post, in an editorial (see archives) really explained the whole thing--including the "outing" of Valerie Plame--as the media being taken in (willingly, in my opinion) by Joe Wilson. But President Bush would never take on Joe Wilson directly. Instead, President Bush acted like a WIMP (as I said at the time), and promised a full "investigation" of who leaked Valerie Plame's employment to Robert Novak (Richard Armitage, as it turned out, and nobody in the media cared--the whole idea was to "get" Karl Rove). President Bush should have shot down Joe Wilson directly in the first place, and declared the Valerie Plame matter as a non-scandal, which was Joe Wilson's fault, in the second place. The FAILURE of President Bush to take on that matter directly resulted in the whole, ridiculous, two year "investigation", and the evental conviction of Scooter Libby (for a "crime" which would not have existed, except for the stupid investigation, in the first place). President Bush had only himself to blame for the whole mess.
Then there is the constant Democrat complaint that the Bush Administration is accusing them of being "unpatriotic". Instead of directly saying that it is not a matter of patriotism, but of Democrats seeming to put the interests of OUR ENEMIES ahead of the interst of their country, President Bush pussyfoots around, and acts like he is AFRAID of the attack (that, and many other attacks). Republicans (politician kind) seem to be following preisdent Bush's lead on this--possibly because they don't see him as being willing and able to take their side in a public fight against the Democrats.
Only recently has President Bush been willing to publicly fight the Democrats on SPENDING (correctly leading to the impression that President Bush is one of the biggest spenders, as a President, that we have had).
Now we have this CIA non-scandal (yse, Bill O'Reilly, as he does perodically, has acted as a WIMP on this one, as has all of Fox News--part of the problem of the mainstream news media,a nd NOT part of the solultion). The CIA interrogation tapes SHOULD have been destroyed. It would have done irreparable damage to this country for those tapes to leak out--including revealin CIA agents in a DAMAGING way (as distinguished from the non-damaging "leak" on Valterie Plame's employment).
See the previous entries in this blog on this subject. Democrats are INSANE, and apparently willing to HURT this country, and cause Americans to be KILLED, for their politcal agenda. Democrats are trying to make headlines all over the world that we have "tortured" TERRORISTS by "waterboarding".
These interrogation tapes come from 2002--RIGHT AFTER 9/11. We can argue over whether "waterboarding" is torture, and maybe we should not do it again. But the idea that we should be endlessly INVESTIGATING a few incidents of questionable interrogation methods years ago is INSANE.
No, I do NOT want to "bring someone to justice" for this type of interrogation tecnique YEARS AGO, after 9/11. And I do NOT want to "investigate" "obstruction of justice" in destroying tapes THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DESTROYED, in the interest of this country. Even if you think they should not have been destroyed, it certainly an arguable point. Further, to make a BIG ISSUE at the time of whether they should be destroyed would defeat the whole purpose. It would almost guarantee that such tapes would LEAK (or that Democrats would demand they be SHOWN).
You have the depsticable Associated Press, andt he mainstream "news" media (including FOX NEWS--again part of the PROBLEM, rather than part of the solution), trying to run with the dstruction of these few tapes as a "scandal".
And Democrats keep trying to suggest that it is MORE IMPORTANT to endlessly ACCUSE this country of TORTURE, than it is to win the War on Terror. As I have asked before: WHOSE SIDE ARE THESE PEOPLE ON. Oops! I forgot. This blog has established long ago that they are on the side of the terrorists, especially if they scent a political issue against the Bush Administration.
What is PRESIDENT BUSH saying about all of this? Is he saying that Democrats seem more interested in destorying the CIA, and even this country, than they are in winning the War on Terror? Is he saying that the Democrats just dont' seem to want to put the interests of this country first? Is he saying that we can argue about whether waterboarding is "torture", but that endlessly "investigating" YEARS PAST interrogations for POLITICAL reasons will result in Americans being KILLED? Is he even saying WATERED down versions of these things? Are ANY Republican politicians? Answer to all of these: Not that anyone can see, although the mainstream news media might not feature such material, unless it is presented AGGRESSIVELY.
I repeat: President Bush is a WIMP. Too many Reupblican politicians are WIMPS. I am ashamed of them for not taking on the Democrats in this sort of thing, where I think the public would be with them.
And some commentators wonder why the Republican rank and file are not "enthused" about Republicans this year!!!!!!!!!!!!
