Fair Tax
I just endored Mitt Romney for President (see previous entry). That said, Huckabee is IMPRESSIVE in his support (alone among the candidates) for the FAIR TAX.
The Fair Tax is that revolutionary tax proposal which would ELIMINATE the IRS, and replace it with what amounst to a Federal sales/consumption tax (with provisions to make sure that the tax is not "regressive" against the poor). No more tax returns. People buying stuff would pay the tax. No avoiding the tax, or cheating (any more than their is on present sales taxes).
It is a pretty good idea. An email correspondent of mine is a crusader for it. I favor it. In previous entries, I have cited people to sources of information on it (whcih I will not do now--you can loook it up on Google).
Mike Huckabee is pretty impressive on the Fair Tax. That is a reason I will not be too disappointed if he wins the nomination. However, I have extreme doubts that the Fair Tax wlll ever become law. The interests lined up against it are just too powerful. Plus, in part explained in the previous entry, I just can't endorse Huckabee for the Republican nomination. He is, however, a reason that the Republicans have the STRONGER field of candidates (while Democrats are reduced to claiming that being FIRST LADY makes you EXPERIENCED).
NO Democrat is for something as new and different as a Fair Tax. The Democrats are all for the same old leftist things, except MORE extreme than usual, because Democrats are now the captives of the FAR LEFT. This is one reason I am encouraged aboutt he state of the Republican Party, even as I am frustrated by the major flaws that the Republican politicians all seem to have.
