Fred Thompson
I have endorsed President-elect (because of my vote "projection" call) Mitt Romney to be the next President of the United States.
However, Fred Thompson was really impressive last night on Hannity and Colmes (a show I usually do NOT watch--see archives--but did so last night specifically because of teh Thompson interview).
I have, in effect, suggested that if I had the power to APPOINT a President of the United States, among the present contenders, I might well appoint Fred Thompson. He is the most relably conservative of the bunch (Romney is a resident, and former governor, and Senate candidate, from MASSACHUSETTS, for God's sake--see previous entry about the insanity of Massachusetts, which may be catching). Mitt Romney is SAYING all of the right things, which is why I endorsed him. But there is that nagging doubt about just how much he believes them (it may not matter whether he does or does not, which is another reason I endorsed him).
My problem with Fred Thompson is that I am not sure he knows how to RUN for President. I orignially predicted that Thompson and Romney would be the two Republicans to whom the nomination fight would eventually reduce in the Republican Party. I still think I could have been right, IF Thompson had hit the ground running (after his delay in getting in the race--the DELAY not hurting him, but the lethragic entry hurting him badly).
Still, Thompson was REALLY impressive last night (and in the last Iowa debate). Can he yet hone his laid back style to gain momentum in the RACE for the nomination? Maybe, although I suspect it is too late.
Anyway, it would not break my heart if Fred Thompson somehow pulled out the nomination (even though it would hurt my 99.1% accuracy rating). I regard Fred Thompson as my no. 2 choice for President, with Mike Huckabee a pretty distant third (even though I would support him in a general election, if he were nominated--something I would NOT say about McCain, and maybe not even about Giuliani--where the jury is still out on that one).
