Duke Rape Case and African American Criminal Heroes
See the previous entries in this blog asserting that the civil rights movement has gone severely off track in making HEROES out of African-American THUGS and CRIMINALS who happen to be treated unjustly. It is one thing to try to correct injustices. It is another thing to make these people HEROES. Alexis Goggins (see blog archives) is a heroine. The Jena 6 (admittedly treated too harshly) and Abu-Jamal are THUGS and criminals.
I was reminded of this by the "new" "news" regarding the Duke "rape" case. Duke lacrosse players who were NOT charged with a crime have sued Duke University and the city (strikes me as a weak lawsuit).
One of those students NOT charged with a crime was the student who wrote the RACIST email talking about what the boys at this party were going to do to the black stripper (an email not really evidence of rape, but which was more likely to be amdissible evidence than most of this media stuff on Drew Peterson--except the student LUCKED OUT when the stripper did not identify him as one fo the alleged assailants).
The Duke lacrosse players were innocent of rape. This does NOT make them HEROES, and it is just as much a mistake to consider them heroes (or even admirable individuals) as it is to regard these African-American criminals as heroes who happen to be treated unjurstly.
you are NOT a hero when you send a disgustedly racist email. You are NOT a hero by having a black stripper, and talking about her ahead of time in very racist terms.
Now do perfectly admirable men sometimes hire strippers for "entertainment". Sure they do. Back at the time I started as a lawyer, the El Paso Bar Association had a "bar skit" every year--which sometimes became raunchy. The bar was mostly male then. One year the people putting on the skit hired a STRIPPER to keep coming out with less and less close (with a board announcing something to do with the skits). Needless to say, there is now NO "bar skit".
It does not really make you a bad person to hire a stripper (as distinguished from being a racist). But it does not make you a HERO, either.
