Tiger, Tiger, Burning Bright: San Francisco Zoo Tiger
There is that story today aobut the tiger escaping and mauling people at the San Francisco Zoo. There are disturbing indications already that the mainstream media is ready to play the "blame game", WITHOUT FACTS. The present AP/AOL story is that the authorities have not "ruled out" human involvement (i.e. deliberate act or carelessness in terms of giving the tiger an avenue of escape that would not have been there if the ordinary barriers had been maintained fully effective).
"Not ruled out" is media speak for: We want to speculate and hype the most dramatic thing we can. It would be nice, for a change, if the media simply reported the FACTS, and did not start the usual SPECULATION about POSSIBLE people at fault.
That said, I agree with Rush Limbaugh on this one. He often says that "Tigers are tigers". They are ANIMALS. Their nature is to be a tiger. You can't expet them to be anything else (Limbaugh sometimes analogizes this to true leftists, but that is irrelevant to this point).
One think is clear: YOU CANNOT BLAME THE TIGER. Maybe you can't truly blame anybody else either (there IS such a thing as a freak accident). But it is nonsence to say the tiger was at fault.
