Absolutely NOT TRUE.  Just as leftists do NOT really believe in free speech, leftists do NOT really believe in the inherent goodness of people.  NO ONE wants to CONTROL people "for their own good" more than leftists (which is why they have tended to excuse "left wing" totalitarian regimes like the  Soviet Union, and wannabes like Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez).

The real difference between conservatives and leftists:  Conservatives RESPECT the free will of human beings enough to hold human beings RESPONSIBLE for what they do.  Leftits do NOT respect human beings as being able to be held responsible for their choices.  To leftists, human beings :(in general) are CHILDREN to be led by leftists, and who are not really responsible for what they do.

 Leftists do NOT respect human beings enough to hold them responsible for what they do (leftists LIKE "dependent" classes looking to leftists for "guidance"--explaining why lefitsts want to keep so many people in a dependent, downtrodden state).

P.S.  The above quote is from an AOL comment under the Texas execution story, and my usual incisive response.  I like to import these comments from time to time to illustrate the sterility, and error, of lefitist "thinking".
