Atheism as a Religion
This entry is prompted by a story out of Kentucky about an atheist trying to use an obscure Kentucky law (allowing a MAN, but apparently not a woman, to object to the school his child attends) to prevent his child from going to a Catholic school (where the custodial mother evidently wants the child to go, and the type of school which the child has been attending--now heading for high school, where it is unlikely the child would be going to a school to which the CHILD strongly objected).
The whole point here, of course, is to try to make a national "news" on this to advance the atheist agenda (atheist attorney and atheist dad). The child is irrlevant here.
As readers of this blog know, I am an agnostic. That means that I am a SKEPTIC who belives in reason more than faith. But why should a person who believes in the human mind, and reason, object to his children being exposed to religion? I did not. My two daughters went to a Catholic School for a few years, at the suggestion of their mother--my divorced wife (THEY wanted to quit to go to a public school with BOYS). It did not hurt them, and I never worried about it. Why should I demand that my children think like me, and not even be exposed to religion, unless I am making a RELIGION of my own beliefs.
That is my problem with militant atheists. They treat atheism as a RELIGION. If you believe in reason, and looking at things skeptically, how can you MILITANTLY assert that God does not exist. How can you purport to believe in human reason, and then want to prevent human reaons from even being exposed to religious thought. You have to be pretty insecure, don't you, in your own beliefs, if you do't even want people to be exposed to other belliefs.
It is one of the themes of this blog that LEFTISTS, and militant atheists (leftist or not, although they are mostly leftist), are INTOLERANT--often religious BIGOTS.
I dont worry about lawmakes praying (seel previous entry). If I am at a public meeting, and somebody leads a prayer, I bow my head in RESPECT of other people's beliefs, and DON'T PRAY. When I say the Pledge of Allegiance, I hve no problem with SAYING "under God"--much less merely hearing it (no one is FORCED to say those words). If I am in someone's house, or in a public dinner, and someone says Grace, I bow my head again. I do NOT say: "You are offending me by assuming I believein God or your idea of religion." That would be RUDE and INTOLERANT.
How ARROGANT is it for a person to say that they KNOW that there is no God--or even that there is no Christian God (I do sympathize with the idea that these religious arguments over the exact identity and substance of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost--with dissenters called HERETICS--are ridiculous and indfensible; but no one really pays much attention to these arcane religious arguments anymore).
How INTOLERANT is it to assert the RIGHT not to be even EXPOSED to the majority religion in the country? It is as INTOLERANT and RUDE as you can get. That applies to the ACLU, and those others, who ATTACK CHRISTMAS. That is no different tham jumping up and objecting to an opening prayer at some meeting.
Nope. I am right on this. Atheists, and most leftists in this country, are trying to IMPOSE their views on others. They are INTOLERANT of people who do not believe as they do.
I was raised Presbyterian (Sunday School and all of that). It did not hurt me. I used my OWN REASON to decide not to actually go to a church to worship (or worship anywheree else) since the age of 12. That is ARROGANT, in a way. I admit it. I am proud of my own mind. But I am not nearly as arrogant as those militant atheists out there, and as those INTOLERANT, anti-Christiona leftists out there.
I absolutely am not so arrogant as to be SURE that it is only I, and others like me, who know the TRUTH; and therefore that people should not even be exposed to other beliefs. To me, that is the essence of RELIGION, and not reason (except religious people--at least Christians in this country--are not nearly so INTOLERANT).
