in Rush Limbaugh and Me
Does Mitt Romney owe his comeback in Michigan to ME? Maybe so.
For MONTHS, Rush Limbaugh has been doing his best immitation of Hamlet: "To take a postion on the Republican nomination field, or not to take a position, that is the question."
Then I started pointing out that Limbaugh (as well as Hannity and others in conservative talk radio) had ABANDONED conservatives by acting like it made NO DIFFERENCE who won the Republican nomination. I pointed out that such nonsense was a virtual BETRAYAL of both conservatives and the conservative cause--leading to the possible horror of a McCain nomination (or the nomination coming down to McCain v. Huckabee).
Rush Limbaugh said he "studied" the issue about two weekends ago (Was he studying my emails? I had emailled him, besides putting my thoughts in this blog). It was ME that had told Limbaugh that it was IRRESPONSIBLE of him to be giving McCain a free shot at the nomination--giving the disaster that McCain would represent as the Republican nominee. WHY was it okay for Limbaugh to "instruct" the country on the MOST conservative general election candidate, while DOOMING the cnservative cause by failing to take a position in the Republican primary (where it is arguably--I would so argue--MORE crucial).
After "study" (of my emails?) that weekend, Limbaugh came out STRONGLY against McCain and Huckabee. Since New Hampshire, Limbaugh has been HAMMERING McCain, and lecturing conservatives on the worst conservative candidates in the Republican race. Limbaugh has still refused to make an endorsement, but has at least stopped playing Hmlet (or Nero fiddling while Rome burned). See my previous entries on the subject.
What happened? Romney caught fire in Michigan. Yes, Romney seemed to develop a more positive campaign--a more assured campaign. Despite a really good debate performance the Sunday before the New Hampshire primary, Romney had not seemed to be able to connect very well to voters (despite a BIG money advantage). That seemed to change in Michigan. Or was it Limbaugh reading conservatives the riot act? It may well have been a combination of both.
Notwithstanding some uncertainties, there is a STRONG case to be made that if Romney eventually becomes President of the United States, he owes it to ME. No, I do not have the influence that Limbaugh has. But what difference does that make when I can influence LIMBAUGH to do the right thing?
