John McCain and Military Smear
Readers of this blog know that John McCain is my LEAST favorite politician. I have promised to vote FOR HILLARY over McCain, and stand by that promise.
However, in his rants against McCain, Rush Limbaugh has brought up (to be fair, quoting other people, such as Ross Perot, without really endorsing the smear, but Limbaugh has little trouble seeing through this kind of ploy when--say--Hillary Clinton people do the same thing with regard to Barack Obama) allegations floating around aganst McCain as a WAR HERO.
That is a SMEAR. Absent some "smoking gun", you just can't attack McCain on this basis. In the first place, it will BACKFIRE. In the second place, it is EVIL stuff--a smear.
Should we be arguing about McCain's conduct as a POW in North Vietnam? NOPE. Short of PROOF that he affimatively sold out fellow soldiers, I am NOT INTERESTED. It is STUPID to be arguing about the nuances of McCain's "performance" as a POW at this late date.. Ross Perot is out there saying that McCain abandoned fellow POWs by not aggressively pursuing RUMORS that POWs were alive and unaccounted for by Vietnam--even sent to the Soviet Union for experimentation.
While I am sure there may have been an isolated soldier or two held somewhere, and not returned when the peace deal was struck, this is a KOOK theory (fitting for Ross Perot, as LImbaugh himself notes: Ross Perot is a KOOK). There is NO EVIDENCE that any POWs--especially in any number beyond a couple--were ABANDONED when we brought the POWs home.
Nope. This is another smear. It is not worthy of attention. It is NOT a reason to vote against McCain (there are so many BETTER reasons).
